So, after a trip on the dark side, I am back. Phenom II 920 FTW? We will see. I am currently in the process of dismantling my rig to install my new AMD set up. I only have a few pics so far, but whatevs.

The RAM. A carry over, but still cool nonetheless.

Once my roommate comes back with my AS5 he let a friend borrow, I will install the Xiggy. Also, take a few pictures of the rebuilding / cleaning process as it happens. First class of the semester tomorrow morning and I do this at 2 AM? Yup.

Just a tiny update from last night. I need to get some zip ties today for the push-pull fans, and to do a little bit more cable management.

Here's the case laying there, cables all over the place.



Trying to get a basic idea of what I'm working with. I am trying to hook up my old 250 GB Caviar drive, too, so I am trying to get all of the SATA power and data cables to look at least somewhat decent. Having a separate drive for Linux, instead of a separate partition, should be cool.



The Xiggy is wide enough I can only use 2 RAM slots. I looked through the board's manual, and there's no mention of how the RAM slots are configured, so I don't know if this will be dual channel or not. Unless I change coolers, I don't really have a choice, though.






So, yo, I know this wasn't that interesting of an update, but without zip ties, there wasn't a whole lot more I could accomplish last night. Today, I should finish the initial build, and I will install Vista and perhaps run a few benches. I will post my OC results as I get them, too.

Well one of the CPU fans, when plugged into one of the Fan Ports on the board, makes a weird kind of buzzing noise. Plugged into a different Fan Port, it doesn't make the noise. Maybe the port's voltage is higher, or something? Also, when my rear exhaust fan is plugged into the Fan Port that doiesn't make the CPU fan buzz, it doesn't turn on.

Guess I have some tweaking to do, still.

I think I have decided that the fan port that makes the fan buzz is just running the fan at full power, so it's noisy. As for the other, non-functioning port, I'm not sure. I plugged an extra fan into multiple ports, and it worked in one, not in the other. Do you guys think there may be some kind of BIOS option to enable the fan ports, or perhaps that the fan port may have arrived dead?

Well, this morning I was just trying to do a few basic BIOS things. I turned off Cool 'n Quiet, tried to set RAM to default timings, all that. And, for whatever reason, it wouldn't POST, even though the CPU and RAM were both at stock settings. I am going to Flash my BIOS this afternoon, and see if that alleviates a couple issues I've been having. This certainly hasn't been quite as simple as I had hoped.
