Default New phenom 940 build

Well last night i ordered some parts expecting them to be shipped today from newegg but for some reason paypal decided to use my old prepaid CC instead of my linked bank account

So I'm going to let this thread run to see if i should change anything. I have $591 to work with so if you would change something let me know!

I plan on using my Tuinq 120 to cool the Phenom II, Reuse my hard drive and CD drive, and I bought a 1000W corsair here at OCN! So all i need is PII940 of course Ram, mobo, and a case.

Last night I thought it all through and went with this

XCLIO WTBK(Windtunnel) ADVANCED Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811103019

GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128381

Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220334

And of course
Phenom II 940 Black Edition
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103471

What i want out of this semi build/upgrade is a great overclock out of the Phenom II and ram. It might be a gamble going with the gigabyte UD4 since it's new and has no reviews, the ram i picked seems to be pretty good I just dont want anything i have listed to limit my overclock.

Any opinions?

Get a different case.

Look at the cm590. I got one recently and love it. I am currently running 5 120mm yate loon fans (2 front, 2 top, 1 back - there is still spaces for 2 more on the side panel) and a slim 80mm fan on the back of the motherboard tray. This case has fantastic airflow. Would knock some $$ off your build and give you a better cooling case.

The 690 is also a popular case, as is the antec 300/900/1200 series.

I have had several Gigabyte boards and they all overclocked well...

Well after looking at the antec 1200 for the first time, my heart stopped so im going to deposit my savings i have in the house so i can get that instead of the wind tunnel. This was after i had to submit 3 orders to newegg and have them deny one because it used a prepaid card on my paypal account and not my bank account, then a second one because i used a secure card through paypal when they asked for the Mastercard # i put 1800-mastercard, and a 3rd because i saw the antec 1200 rofl.

I just dont understand now though, everytime i have ordered it was instant payment to paypal through my bank account. This time i ordered last night at 11 and it still was not done.

i would say pick up a 790gx for the sb750, should give higher OC's aswell

heres a link to the board and hell its only 20$ more

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128352

i would also consider 790fx+sb750's but they tend to be a bit more pricey but do 16X-16x CF where the gx does 8X-8X CF

edit: i am a fool did not notice the 790X board had sb750 well ignore my post i suppose lol

Well actually, in terms of overclocking the 920 and 940's, there's no difference between SB600 and SB750. This is because ACC is now built into the phenom II chips, whereas before it was only a feature introduced on the motherboard. At least nothing inherently better, there's nothing saying a SB750 board won't be better simply for the fact that it could be better built, might have better components, etc. So it's always best to check up on what boards tend to oc the best, and consider those regardless of whether or not its SB600 or SB750. Otherwise, good advice!

P.S. on another note, please don't pick up the motherboard in my sig. It's outdated, I don't think its even for sale in retail channels anymore and there are better alternatives! Just remember to consider SB600 boards as well, they *may* be an attractive option depending on what is available to you. However the most recent boards are SB750 anyway, and SB600's are getting rare, so you'll probably end up with an SB750 which is fine.

that's initally what drawed me to it and the fact the two huge ass fans on the side it looks like a star trek computer heh. But I'm going to go with the antec 1200 I think, its 169 SHIPPED on new egg right now and i cant really go past a $200 for a case and that's a steal for it.

As for the motherboard i have the k9a2 in my sig but it does not overclock well possibly due to the fact it's not really built for high clocks /phenoms. So im going to place my order right now with the gigabyte board above and same ram just a case change to the antec 1200.

Thanks everyone!

2 hours ago but the 790x is the same as the 790gx without integrated graphics(less heat) and costs less cash only about $30 though but still.

What else would be the reason? I could be missing something lol.

Still haven't ordered the parts because it turns out i was supposed to have a credit card as a backup funding source through paypal so every time i ordered it would say pending on paypal and submitted on newegg so yesterday i was literately on the phone for 3 hours calling back and forth to paypal and newegg. And it turns out for some reason the prepaid credit cards i had on my account were acting as back up funders for every order incase the instant bank transfer fails. So all this time about 5 months every order or payment had those cards as back ups when they only had like $2 on it.

So if anyone has more suggestions go ahead and post since the bank transfer is going to take 3-5 days >_<
