Definitely agree with that, I don't know how to get that high of an OC without having a 1.4 vcore, maybe there's a difference between an FSB OC and a multiplier OC, since I did multiplier.

Anyway great temps for that speed.

About half hour though the full OCCT run, it failed. (PC reboot.)

Since to go any further would require me giving the CPU more volts than I feel comfortable, I am instead going to dial back and start working on RAM.

Blitz, why not just dial back the memory and run that below factory spec for now until you find a nice processor OC? I'm sure your PhII 940 is capable of much more then 3.6Ghz.

Good luck

What are you considering beyond your safty zone with the cpu core voltage???

I made some changes from my previously stable 3.6 oc and have not been able to obtain a stable 3.6 any more.

What kind of voltages are you comfortable with. This 940 max is 1.5v right now after a updted bios I'm sitting at 47C w/1.41CV under 100% OCCT MCP/43C and mobo/29C this last voltage bump that I did seems to have me sitting ok for the last 6 minutes. That is the longes I could get it stable thus far at 3.6Ghz

Edit: My house ambient ATM is cool at 67F

Thlnk3r: the RAM is already below spec. DDR2-960 CL5 instead of DDR2-1066 CL5. I do not want to give the CPU any more voltage, so I am now working on the fastest thing I can get with 1.376 V. The next step up in the BIOS (+75 mV) is 1.408 V at idle, and I do not know at load. I MAY consider it, but do not hold your breath. I refuse to give it +100 mV in the BIOS, guestimated to be at 1.428 V.

N2Gaming: my ambient is 65º F in the winter. I could give my CPU more voltage without temperature issues, but I really do not want to give it more than 50-100 mV. Ideally, 0-50 mV would be good. If I can not stabilize anything over 3.45 GHz within that range, I have no serious complaints with 3.45 GHz and -6 mV. I am now toying with +26 mV; slowly tweaking up the HTT until it is unstable, and then tightening RAM timings.*

*All voltages are in relation to the Hammer VID of 1.350 V.

I see no reason to push such a new processor to the limit, really. I'll bet those extra megahertz wouldn't be very noticeable anyway.
Good luck on working with the RAM.

Your probably correct... I on the other hand always like to live on the wild side and take things to the limit w/in my safety zones... So I'm just fine running my cpu w/a corev of 1.41.if it passes 1 hours w/of stress tests then I will try to move my HT multi up from 7 to 8 and so on. I had to give my NB 1 bump in voltage so far and I just past the 30 minute mark. Half way there and I'll try to push for a higher HT spd. I'm can't wait till I settle on a stable oc and start loading up my games to see how they do w/this new get up...

I admire you blitz for taking the safe route w/your voltages... I think I'm gonna have to go H2O here pretty soon as I originally planned on BNBB with summer right around the corner and all...

Edit just failed again... ARG..

Blitz, perhaps you tried this already with your existing OC but you did you try bumping up the NB VID a tad?

Good luck

Blitz, perhaps you tried this already with your existing OC but you did you try bumping up the NB VID a tad? I noticed you were running close to 2200Mhz NB Frequency.

Good luck

Adding voltage fixed it. 1.408 V idle, 1.392 V load.

Thlnker: my NB CPU voltage is 80 mV over spec. The NB voltage (non-CPU) has no adjustment in the BIOS. The same voltage was able to do 2300 MHz sans incident. (230x10.)

I am going to give the HTT another 2 MHz and run OCCT again. I think 3600 MHz will likely be my 24/7, but it could not hurt to try a bit more. What a difference the voltage makes though. 15x230 @ 1.344 V is 43º C in OCCT. 15x240 @ 1.376 V (failed OCCT) was 48º C prior to dying. 15x240 @ 1.392 V is 52º C.
