Windows 7 Release Candidate runs fine on my desktop. I have not tried Windows 7 of any flavor on my laptop.

So you are planning to dump the 4870x2's in place of one 5870x2 for COD5??? Are you wanting the new video card for the DX11 support or does it just spank your 4870X2's? I'm wondering if you would not be better off w/a mobo that has SB750 instead of SB600? Would a 790FX/SB750 mobo give you any performance gains over your present mobo?

There would likely be no performance gains since I am using a single drive and not RAID. The SB750 overclocks a Phenom I better than the SB600, but for the Phenom II, there is not much of a difference. I also have a true quad core, rather than a disabled quad, so ACC would provide me no benefit.
An HD 5870 is approximately equivalent to an HD 4870x2. My theory then is that two HD 5870s (or an HD 5870x2) would perform about the same, or slightly better, as my current hardware in games that support Quadfire (such as Gears of War, H.A.W.X., Crysis) and far better in games that only support Dualfire (such as Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4). What is the point of having four graphics processors installed if some games only use 2? Far more games support two GPUs than support three or four, so if I get two cards that are as powerful as four of mine, it should be an upgrade in every game I could throw at it.

5870's are monsters. I have a few(still waiting on a Xeon board to set up tri-fire). The single one I run destroys pretty much any game.

Well, I am now running Windows 7 Home Premium on Loricatus Draco (and my laptop for that matter). Not much else to say with this post other than that.

Nice, How do you like it so far?
Are you able to play all the games that you were able to run in Vista? Are you able to run more games than you were able to run in Vista? Are you having any hardware or software compatibilities?

Its alright, it has its goods and bads. For example, I dislike that they no longer have quick launch hotkeys. (This is a feature that was added in Vista; press Windows key plus 1-0 to open your first through tenth quick launch program respectively.) For that matter, there is no reason why they have quick launch disabled by default. Instead, it blatantly copies the idea of pinning from Mac OSX. It takes a little getting used to the change.
They also apparently are trying to get more XP users to switch to Windows 7, because a few of the name changes going to Vista were changed back. Windows Media Player 12 gets rid of the Media Player Toolbar we have had since XP, which is also not cool in my opinion. RAM usage overall is MUCH lower in Windows 7 than in Vista, sometimes as much as 30% lower for same usages. Furthermore, the way sidebar works has been overhauled. Rather than having a discrete program where all your gadgets run, the program (still sidebar.exe) is a bit more amorphous now, not appearing in your systray and permitting you to put gadgets anywhere you want on the task bar. Windows key + spacebar no longer brings up sidebar, but instead, as long as you hold Windows key, all windows change into outlines rather than actual windows. I have not yet found a game I cannot launch in Windows 7 as compared to Vista, but I have not installed a bulk thereof at this time. Nor have I attempted any games that befuddled me in Windows Vista, I am sure I will maintain the same problems I had. I have not yet had any hardware or software compatibility issues, aside of my computers' biometrics not working with the Windows 7-designed software. I am going to try installing the Windows Vista-designed software on my desktop later today, as the Vista software works fine on my laptop. It is interesting to note that Hewlett-Packard actually released a working Windows 7 driver suite. In Windows Vista, the software did not properly work with a duplexer (automatically makes a page print double-sided) in that it would always tell the printer to fold on the short edge (like a legal pad) even if you told it to fold on the long edge (like a book), requiring the use of a third-party hack. Such hack then caused other features not to work right, but at least the printer printed. The Windows 7 suite seems to work natively, without any finagling required.

It certainly FEELS faster, no news on whether it actually is, as I have not tested anything really strenuous on it yet. I can tell you that I still cannot fold on GPU3. I tell Folding@Home to run on GPU0, GPU1, GPU2, GPU3, and it instead runs GPU0, GPU1, GPU2, GPU1 respectively. Is gpu v3.0 out yet?
