Hey guys, might need a bit of advice here but mainly I'm just looking for the green light to go ahead and order the parts already. And before you start, I'm not gonna wait for the new AMD chips.
CPU - AMD PII x4 940 ($225) MOBO - ASUS M4A79 Deluxe ($200) RAM - Mushkin 4GB(2x2) DDR2 1066 ($62) HDD - 640GB 32MB Cache ($80) GPU - GTX260 (Core 216) ($230) PSU - CORSAIR 650W ($90) Optical - Samsung Writemaster ($30) Case - (Some advice) HSF - (Some advice) Total: $917 w/o Case/HSF That's about it. There's really no budget but try to keep it bang for buck and I guess I really didn't have everything set in my mind once it came right down to it. I am gonna overclock this rig so I need some advice on a decent HSF and case which is why I didn't put them down yet. As for the PSU any advice would be welcomed. Thanks. PSU : Anything over 600W should be good for you.
Case: I got some generic thing so don't ask me ![]() HSF : The Xigmatek in my sig rig performs very well and is mildly priced compared to the TRUE.

Okay solid build so far...Might want to go for a cheaper motherboard, I don't see the frills in that one being worth that much.
As for a power supply go with a Silverstone 700w Modular $100 As for a case, get a Cooler Master 690 $80, or an Antec 900 $110 if you really need the window Get the Xigmatek Dark Night $40 or the Scythe Mugen 2 for heatsink Also look at ALL of these combo deals with your processor. Look for them with other parts too.

Switch to this Mobo. Your getting a Nvidia GPU and a AMD chipset on the mobo. You wont be able to SLI. It may not be a big thing now, but in the future you will hate yourself.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131343 179 As for a PSU, I LOVE my corsair. Ive got a 850TX, but this one or the 750TX are also great PSU's. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 69 The Zaleman 9700NT keeps my OC'd 720BE at a OC of 3.7 at a good cold temp of 25idle and 38load. As for a case this is what ive got: http://www.compusa.com/applications/...166&CatId=1510 That case in the older version is a beast. It has excellent air flow. You can pick it up for 149 at Compusa. It is huge though, but its got space for everything u will need. Thats my .02

PSU: Corsair 650 watts
CASE: NZXT Tempest. Its a mid size case, but more like a Full size tower inside. and a ton of room for your gtx 260. Also it looks like an Antec 900 but its much bigger. ![]() HSF:SunBeam Core Contact or Xigmatek Darknight

I'd get a 4870 1-gig to go with the AMD mobo. (Dragon rig)

Thanks for everyone's input so far. I decided to go with the CORSAIR 650W as linked above, but one thing kinda bothers me. I was actually thinking about going SLI as Altimax98 said, so I was looking around for a board that supports AM2+/3 for the upcoming chips, but had an video chipset for nvidia. Sadly I couldn't find anything that would support overclocking nicely. I'm kinda stuck to nvidia gpu's for now because I had a bad run in with ATI in the past, long story short, I got a blown GPU and lost $300.
As for the HSF, I'm gonna take it into consideration and thanks for the recomdations everyone, but untill I get the case down I'm not gonna set anything in stone yet. I really don't wanna have a problem getting the HSF to fit in with everything else. Unless I get a full tower that is. My main issue is with overclocking as I really don't see the point in just buying the 940 when the newer chips are just around the corner, which is why I'm gonna overclock it and keep it for a bit untill I make the big switch to AM3/DDR3. So any suggestions you guys have on mobo's that are good for OCing and support nvidia cards would be great. Again thanks for all the help. ![]() Edit: Quote:
