Default Current build / problems / questions

Hello all, I currently have a computer with these parts:

New parts:

Saphire HD 4850 512 mb
1 TB harddrive (not sure of brand)
Rosewill 850w power supply

Older parts: (all 2-3 years old)

Asus mobo (sorry, don't remember the model)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
2 gigs corsair value memory

Here's the problem I'm having with it.

Since installing the new parts, a few things are happening. First, when booting up a game like Age of Conan, the mobo will beep once and it'll power off (definitely not overheating). This was the only time it was happening - playing that game.

Now, it's randomly shutting off for no reason (might be idling on windows startup with nothing running). Sometimes, the video just cuts out. This has happened in the BIOS where the video card should I have no effect on the video.

My brother concluded that the power supply was probably bad and I ordered a new one. Does that sound like a good diagnosis?

Now, I'm planning on upgrading the CPU/mobo/memory. Here is what I have picked out so far. I would really appreciate it if anyone could point out a better mobo (I just picked the first one I knew was compatible with the chip) and if the memory is good. I'd like to hover around the ~$300 I already have, but I'm not opposed to spending a little more if it'll make a big difference. Thank you!

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor $169.99

Gigabyte GA-MA780G Motherboard $89.99

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ $42.99

I feel as if the mobo might be a little lacking as it's only $90. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help/comments/suggestions!

are you sure you're having enough amps for your psu? 4850 requires 18-20amps if i remember it correctly. but you should have at least 25amps.

remember it's not always about the watts but more of the amps of the 12v rail.

nVidia representative: PhysX, as seen in next-gen games like Batman:Arkham Asylum, PhysX makes your g200 based card BETTER than the 58XX series in all aspects. You'd be an idiot to buy ATI when you'd be forfeiting physX
