So I got two 9800GTX+ cards.

Now, the thing stopping me here is, I just checked some specs and whatnot, and the eVGA box states that I need to support 24 A on a 12V rail. The Enermax specs state that any one rail has 25 A, but that ALL 12V rails together yield 40 A.

I had someone tell me the two cards in SLI mode will not draw >40 A but I'd like to check this with an SLI expert before I fire this thing up and risk blowing something.

Well, I decided to go ahead anyway, fired it up... got a display. Installed Vista, am now about to 3DMark06 it and pray the Enermax's overcurrent protection doesn't come on to shut things down.

Well, 3DMark06 passed, but I saw an odd result - SLI is on, GPU-Z confirms this. Yet I only got 10416 3DMarks; my 2 x 8800GT results were quite similar, at 10385.

Also, I am noticing that the eVGA is not clocking to 745/1100 at full speed but is running at 756/1123. Temperatures of both cards are reasonable; peaking around 50 C under load.

That 5200 X2 would bottleneck the crap out of a single 8800GT so it would make 2 of them cry.

Apparently.

I think I will put the 8800GTs back in and start testing overclockability with the better cooling regime in this setup.

Update. I can't overclock worth beans on the 5200+ CPU. I can get it to 2.8 quasistable under 3dmark06 but I wouldn't trust it.

hmmmm you may want to think about a phenom 2 x2 to eliminate the bottleneck, i think thats gonna give you the best clock speed possible on that board, my kuma does bottlekneck a gts250 coniderable at stock but not atall @ 3.3. so yeah a x2 may be summet to think about if you can

good luck

Well, it looks like an Athlon II X2 250 did the trick

Gonna overwhelm you with a zillion benches of my SLI Antec project now.

I also swapped the DVD drive for a Pioneer model with a black front face. My case looks a lot nicer now without the white front face of the LG making it look incongruous.

I also got some ScienceMark Results. This batch of picture attachments shows the CPU-based benchmark results, as well as my Vista scores and Cache/Memory benches

Next up graphical benches with 2 x 9800GTX+ cards using 182.50 drivers. Also a GPU-Z of the two cards.

NOTE: I ran Vantage twice, once with PPUs enabled and once with PPUs disabled. The lower Vantage score is internally consistent with those from ATI cards.
