Default Best upgrade for sig rig

EDIT: updated latest post asking for cpu cooler recommendations.

?1? would it make a noticeable difference if i upgraded my ram now with another 2x2g of the same ram? or should i wait for 4x2 option or wait and upgrade my cpu when a newer one comes out and then add more new/same ram?

?2? Would readyboost make a difference thats worth the money?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220252
i was thinking about getting a 8g flash just to speed up boot times and the like a little bit, I have done some research on it but not sure yet if it's worth the $.

?3? would a less expensive graphics card speed up my computer at all? i dont play a lot of games. only civ 4 right now/ maybe a total war game later, civ4 runs and looks great at max settings with my onboard graphics card.

?4? for overclocking and stability should i get a new case/cpu cooler? or i might keep the antec 300 and add the 3 120mm fans its missing + cpu cooler.

With Vista, I noticed slightly speedier boot times going from 4GB to 8GB.... with ram as cheap as it is these days, it wouldn't hurt. Going to 4GB also allows you to disable page filing, which is handy for speeding up processes. However, if you really want faster boot times, getting another HDD for RAID would be your best investment

Ready boost was really made more for systems with low amounts of ram... I personally wouldn't bother. Again, if you want faster boot and access times, another HDD for raid is the way to go

If you're talking about performance outside of games, no - not really... the onboard graphics card does sap some RAM, but with 4 (potentially 8) GB, you shouldn't have any issues

What are your temps like right now? Considering your OC, it must get a bit hot... Get a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 or Darknight for the CPU and leave the A300 be (it's a very nice case and should be fine for airflow)

core temp is around 50 to 53C right now with ambient 80F doors open for fresh air.
my ambient is usually 70F pretty cool lots of ac running here in texas.

i had heard that some gpus could make your cpu faster for normal use. i don't plan to do alot of gaming. so guess no need for graphics card or readyboost either.

I was thinking about adding an SSD and maybe replacing my hardrive with a faster one. i bought the cheep WD320g just to get my system up and running.

looks like my best option might be adding another 2x2g of the same ram first and then upgrading hard drives?

overclock and temps can be seen in my other thread that also needs help

Dont do it. Youll run into problems filling more than 2 dimms in the ph II mem controller. Also you will hurt your overclocks. 2x 2gb is well good enough.

also forget solid state for the time being. Get two of the exact same fairly good 7200rpm HDDs and run them in raid 0. Or get 3 HDDs and run raid 5 for insurance. OR if you want amazing speeds and dont mind a little extra noise and money get 2 10000rpm HDDs and run them in raid 0.

Oh yeah, I forgot that AMDs have the memory controller on the CPU... I doubt it's anything a bit more voltage couldn't fix though - I see plenty of people on here with AMD rigs running fully loaded DIMMS

Yeah, as I stated in my first post RAID is probably your most cost effective solution right now... SSDs are still far from worth it - too expensive, bad warranties and not as versatile on file sizes

Get two similar 7200rpms of your choice for RAID0...or if you want to dish out the cash, get two WD 10,000RPM VelociRaptors instead

be forewarned though. RAID 0 is awesome, but if either one of the HDD's go crap you lose everything on both drives. You should get another big HDD to have out side of the RAID array and put all of your important data on those. Or if youre worried about losing progs or the OS thats on the RAID array, go with RAID 5 with three or more HDDs. I feel like i am being redundant. ::laughs::

okay so I will upgrade the hard drives next. i don't want two of the hdds i have now as it was the cheapest one i could get. I'll get two new 10,000RPM drives and use my current 320g to back things up. i don't use a lot of space so two small raptors seem reasonable.

In the mean time i think i need to upgrade my cooling so i can maximize my overclocking. my antec 300 has room for 3 more 120mm fans, what are the suggestions for brand and speed, i've read a lot of conflicting reviews. i don't want any lights and noise is not my main concern. I'm reviewing cpu coolers now still undecided what to go with.

any news on 4x2g's would this be a better option when they come out i dont' think i'll upgrade my ram until i do a cpu upgrade

Any consideration to WC?
If not its hard to beat the price/performance of the xiggy s1283/DK.

Your RAID 0 setup should be quite awesome! I honestly wish i could afford one, but budgets are super tight for me.

Also, if youre thinking about getting video cards check these out. This series just came out and theyre suppose to be quite good in crossfire if youre on a budget. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...on%20HD%204770

I think I am going to go with water cooling but while i learn how and put something together i want to add some decent fans to keep everything else cool... would adding 3 case fans make much of a difference?
