Time to fill you in on my latest and greatest build.
My last computer (ECS KA3 MVP, AMD Athlon64 X2 5600+, 4x1Gb DDR2 800) was getting outdated, and I required more horsepower. To make a long story short, NCspecV81 sold me an AMD Phenom X4 9950+ Black Edition for $85. I couldn't pass it up, even if the Phenom II is out, and better. Here you can see how excited I am... ![]() But the 9950+ didn't work in my ECS board, which was aging anyways (POSTing was taking 20-30seconds). This led to some research, which led to me to purchase some new parts. Might as well give the 9950+ the best that I could. A DFI 790FX-B and some DDR2 1066 from Patriot were what I chose, and so far I couldn't be any happier. *Pretty hardware pictures* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Needless to say, the motherboard and RAM have been excellent. I highly recommend DFI & Patriot at the moment. This was all going into my NZXT Tempest, which I have slightly modded to be... well... very green. One thing that I always wanted to do was drill a hole in the motherboard tray for the CPU power and the rear exhaust fan wire. *CPU wire is all over the place *![]() So I figured I might as well do it while I'm changing motherboards anyways. A quick trip to Home Depot, and I am wrestling my case in the garage trying to drill a 1 1/4" hole in my motherboard tray. This didn't go EXACTLY as planned, but what does? All of my risers fell out, and all but one fell into the PSU. After that struggle, this is what I got. ![]() I wasn't trying to win any modding contests, just trying to make a functional hole, which I did do Mission accomplished. Now I guess it's time to show you guys what all this crap looks like in my case. *Several sets of clean pants may be required* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() *I really hate the side panel fan wire* Now to the Overclocking. For the life of me, I can't get 3.4GHz to boot to windows. It will POST, but then BSOD. But I can manage 3.2GHz with the northbridge frequency at 2.2GHz. Good enough for me. http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/9nf9b/ http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=556684 ![]() ![]() From what I can tell, my 3Dmark08 Vantage score went up 2000 points, and Counter-Strike: Source gained an average of 20FPS. Honestly, though, what I like best is the multitasking this thing does. It's a very smooth system. Stay tuned for more guys! I'll try to cook up something else to put this thread to use.
