atm I am using my single core venice(sig rig is down for memory RMA)once I clocked this old tank up it moves along pretty damm nice for a single venice(2.7)

what is that cpu standard? sorry im going to have to learn the different chips code names!

well i've just succesfully OC'd my 3800+ up to 2.58 on the current pc, have to run the ddr @ 148hz tho..

still, good practice for when i get the new rig built up

I actually think it will be more expensive to build with that stuff then if you were to buy everything new, old tech is expensive.

this venice is 2.2 standard,so 2.7 is ok.What sort of voltages and temps are you getting with your 3800(san diego?)

voltage was up to 1.50/55 i cant remember now, but it didn't last long.. got too hot so its back down to 2.45 (ish) gig... going to have to get cpz on here to see what is happening.. plus im going to have to practice more to get a handle on what exactly i need to do for most stable OC'ing. thanks for all your input so far guys

Can't wait to see what you get that 170 up to . Hopefully you've got a lucky chip like mine....and why NOT run Socket 939 in 2009? There's nothing wrong with it...its still K8, just like AM2 dual cores.

Also, check my sig out, there's a great 939 club here on OCN .

i need some advice guys!

i've got everything in the case and wired up, now i need advice..

its a new SATA HDD, new DVD RW also SATA, no floppy... should i just be able to chuck in the XP disc and away it will go, or do i need to go through some slightly annoying procedure first?

It depends which Service Pack is integrated on the XP disc. If it's a SP2 or SP3 integrated disc then you won't have a single problem.
