Question for the mods out there as this thread is not getting as many responses as I would like, should/can this thread be moved to the AMD build logs section?

I'm gonna repost some of the questions I had as a bump since I'm not getting help at all in this thread. I realize it's probably due to the fact that I wrote way too much on the first post and people just decided not to read it, but I was under the impression that a well though out post would get more attention than one without all the details and questions typed out.

-Is it worth upgrading to a 955?

-Is it easy to paint the "nicer" metal of the CM Storm Sniper?

-Can one just use primer and then spray paint (without sanding) for a flat black interior?

-Is 8 gigs of RAM vs 4 gigs worth it?

-Can the TRUE only be mounted in the top-down position on an AM2+ socket? If so, can one swap out the AM2 mounting bracket with a socket 775 bracket (in order to mount in a left-right position)?

-Does the TRUE block memory slots on AM2+ boards?

-Does the Coolermaster V8 have a red LED fan?

-What type of fans (bearing-wise) are you supposed to mount on heatsinks?

-Should I use PWM fans or fixed speed fans on my TRUE? (I will be controlling the rest of my case fans with the master fan control on the I/O panel of the Sniper.)

-Should I move this thread to the AMD build forum to get more feedback?

-Is it worth upgrading to a 955?
more future expandability with it, if you where going to go down that route i would get a am3 board and ddr3 memory instead for more future expandability.

-Is it easy to paint the "nicer" metal of the CM Storm Sniper?

usually for a nice paint job people are going to suggest sanding/wipedown/etc.

-Can one just use primer and then spray paint (without sanding) for a flat black interior?
there could be some week points where primer/paint kind of did not completely take but look into plasti-dip apparently it looks and works well.

-Is 8 gigs of RAM vs 4 gigs worth it?

depends on the speed of the ram but i would say stick with a good set of 4gigs that can have super tight timings and high speed.

-Can the TRUE only be mounted in the top-down position on an AM2+ socket? If so, can one swap out the AM2 mounting bracket with a socket 775 bracket (in order to mount in a left-right position)?
unsure.

-Does the TRUE block memory slots on AM2+ boards?
you will mostly likely loose one slot you will be able to fit ram under it as long as it has small heat spreaders. i did on my cooler atleast and i believe mine is smaller then the true not 100% sure.

-Does the Coolermaster V8 have a red LED fan?
yes

-What type of fans (bearing-wise) are you supposed to mount on heatsinks?
not sure

-Should I use PWM fans or fixed speed fans on my TRUE? (I will be controlling the rest of my case fans with the master fan control on the I/O panel of the Sniper.)

i would say fixed speed.

-Should I move this thread to the AMD build forum to get more feedback?
you might get some more help there who knows though

Well I'm probably stay with AM2+ as budget wise AM3 does not look too smart or that much better.

I asked about painting the Sniper because I noticed that the metal inside the case is "machined" and has a shinier finish than normal cases that are modded. Will painting/sanding this case be the same process.

Can anyone else comment on the 775 socket converter for the AM2 platform?

I read someone on the forum recently that sleeve bearing fans dry up when horizontal but will work fine vertical on a HSF?

i HIGHLY doubt the 775 bracket will work. The mounting holes are located further out. As long as your case has top exhaust you're better off keeping the AM2+ bracket. Ive yet to have the problem with sleeved bearings, but remember they are the cheapest. If you have the money go DDR3.

The 775 bracket works, I have it on my system right now. However, you'll have to buy an Enzotech mounting bracket to be able to use the 775 X-Clip. Basically the Enzotech bracket converts AM2+ to 775 in where the screws come out, so you can mount it any way that you'd like.

I saw something recently where someone removed the threaded screws that came with the Enzotech mounting bracket and used the TRUE spring screws to secure it instead.

Edit: See the link below for pictures of the Enzotech mounting solution I'm talking about. Post #37 of this:

Woot, pics!

But what's with everyone saying that it's "not cost-effective"?

Isn't this the adapter?

Nope. that is the old k8 mount style. Go to his link and you will see the plate hes talking about. It seems to be machined quite well too.
