Why would you buy a tri channel memory kit? Its not running in tri or dual..

i've heard of people taking those low voltage high speed tri kits and only using 2 sticks...
i've heard rumor of them working VERY well in non x58 platforms, but the only thing i've actually seen where someone tried it, the results were less than spectacular (some guy here on ocn did it with an x48 chipset)

AMD pro OC'r chew* buys tri-channel. He only uses two though and keeps the third for backup.

I want 6GB of RAM, the price was right at the time (10 bucks more than the dual-channel 4GB kit I was eyeing) and the performance difference between no channel and dual channel as tested by me (pulling out 1 stick for dual) is biggest only in benchmarks. Gaming is unaffected and I do nothing else.

Na, my G.Skills can do nothing other than their rated speeds/timings. I dropped timings to 8-8-8-24 and couldn't boot until I changed it back to CL9.
