Default Build for my grandparents.

Hey, I am building a rig for my grandparents, and they don't really need much in a rig. I decided to go AMD since they don't need an i7. All they do is email, play javascript chess online, and surf the web, but they do want the capability of watching DVDs.

Combo deal

The rest of the stuff

My grandfather wants a big monitor to go with it too.

How is it? Do I really need a 9400GT, or can they just use the integrated Radeon 3200? The most they will be doing is watching DVDs... I can upgrade it in the future, so I guess it would be wiser to not get the 9400GT right now.

Also, I need a SATA DVD drive, and I currently have IDE. I plan on using the SATA drive there for my own PC, and give them the IDE drive.

No overclocking, it won't do them any good, so I'm fine with the ECS mobo and stock cooling and stuff.

HD3200 can do BluRay playback, so they'll be fine with it.

Other than that, it looks superb. Great deal, and should work out excellent for them.

I offered to do it for free, but after a conversation, they are pretty much force giving me $100+ to build it.

For just websurfing and stuff, they really don't need 4GB of ram, but they are pretty computer illiterate; If they get the popup 'YOU HAVE >9000 VIRUSES' they believe it and download the spyware... I figure I'd build a PC that would beast through the viruses and not slow down to a standstill even with 50 trojans and worms and stuff.

Excellent parts. I must comment on how easy it is to get excellent parts right now for really cheap.

Are you sure? I don't think that the GTX 295 is good enough for playing back youtube videos.

That's not a very smart strategy.... while the machine maybe able to operate, their personal data is being stolen and their machine is being used to attack others.

Other than the standard AV and defense, I would recommend you creating two partitions (one for the OS and one for the files).... do a periodic re-imaging of the OS drive if you think there's a problem.
