I can tell you straight up that A) there is no performance increase between DDR2 and DDR3, and B), if there is, it isn't significant, but like I said, if you're building right now, it would be very stupid to get older tech.

Multi GPU setups are always bad ideas unless you're buying two of the best at the same time. Get a single more powerful GPU.

I'm inclined to agree on the AM2+/DDR2 front; you will get more FPS for your $$$ (and this is what you have to keep in mind every step of the way for a gaming rig) by spending that money on a better GPU than more expensive RAM.

But, AM2+ knocks out any chance of upgrading.

I'm curious, just how expensive do you think DDR3 is?

quite a bit. eg OCZ platinum 2x2GB 1600Mhz is ~$450 AUD, where the OCZ plat 2x2GB 800 or 1066 is ~$150.

My 6GB kit cost me $93 CAD. That's not too bad TBH.

Nooo, don't finalize on a GTX 260! You're ripping yourself off when you could have what is essentially a GTX 285/280 with 896MB of RAM (and is newer tech) for the same price, the GTX 275. I got mine (the OC version that OC's higher than some 285's) for $185. It absolutely obliterates the 260 and has the hardware to back it up.

Here is what is the best for you:
- Phenom II X4 955
- M4N82 Deluxe
- Corsair 750w PSU
- GTX 275
- WD Caviar Black 750 GB
- G. Skill DDR2 1066 MHz
- Mugen 2 (Dark Knight mounts only one way, up and down)
- CM Scout

This is just off the top of my head, but still much better than you have there, and cheaper too!

isnt there a bit of a performance/stability increase with the 640gb due to the platters?
