Alright I'm looking for a cheap multitasker for work.
EDIT: added links to potential carts 785G ddr2 cart 785 ddr3 cart Ok, there isn't a whole lot of difference between these, and I found better deals on some of the parts through different sources. But do these 785G setups look good? which should I go for? I can get the ddr2 setup (parts through various etailers) for $500~ and when all rebates come it will be knocked down to about $400. If this is a worthy setup, let me know ![]() Something I put together for reference: newegg wishlist What I'm looking for: quad/tri core psu ram 2x2 crossfire mobo (gigabyte, asus, maybe something else?) dvd burner cheap case Logitech MX518 Possibly OS What I have: monitors keyboard hdd 1950xtx (should push 2 x 22" good ye?) It will be used for web development, will be using Adobe CS suite, as well as multiple browsers and 2 monitors from the get go. I would like it to perform well with many app's open. I have a few issues to resolve in this thread. I know you are going to suggest vista/win7 and x64. Sounds good, but I don't know if they will play well with the software, and I have very little experience with either of those OS, which may be cumbersome.. Otherwise I could just buy an OEM vista and upgrade to win7. Or run xp until 7 comes out and go for that. I may or may not overclock it, I'm sure it will be quite fast stock, but if I get a tri core, may want to bump it up over 3ghz, with this in mind I don't really want one of the cheaper mobos, but I'm open to suggestions I would like this to be done cheaply, So I'm not sure if what I put down as "requirements" are overkill for this or spot on.. Input welcome. Looking for links to deals, open to buying from OCN users, etc. I have a 1-2 weeks to order. Thanks

The x1950xtx should be a pretty good card to run 2 monitors.
__________________Personally I would go with an am2+ board with ddr2. The performance increase is nominal between the two and could save you some more dough. Look into some of the 785g or 770 motherboards, they are pretty nice.

I know the Adobe CS suite benefits a ton from better CPU so you should look to invest a slightly higher proportion of your money on the CPU.
__________________Since you aren't doing any 3D work I assume, you don't need a strong graphic card. The card you have there should be plenty. Also consider buying more RAM. In the simplest terms, RAM is good for speed =) especially something that hogs a lot of RAM like Adobe products.

Dell Optiplex 960 of the mid-tower model.
If business is ever ever involved with anything, you won't be doing a custom build, you will buy it from Dell/HP/IBM. You cannot match their warranty and response time of their service. Get the model without any GPU and slap the 1950 in that and away you go.

I just noticed this in the online deals section - Logitech MX Revolution for $45.49 +FS at Amazon.com
It's not a gaming mouse like the MX518 but this is a business rig, right?

Hmm, ddr2 may be just fine, and AM2+ stuff, lots of choices and easy to get. Were their any crossfire 785 boards? I didn't look at all of them, but they looked nice...
Also the mouse is just preference, love the way it feels. I'm using an old Dell right now... <shudders> no. not again. OCN is customer support, and custom is quality, plus I get to put it together, thanks for suggestions though

bump, OP edited, looking for comments on the 2 newegg carts listed towards the top, onboard + dedicate card = possible tri monitor setup doesn't it? if onboard plays nice with dedicated card?

Everything looks compatible and should work fine. The only thing I'd worry about is the video card being too long for a small case.

I wasn't dead set on the case more thrown in for price reference, was thinking about going with CM 690, saw one in for sale thread, decent price for nice case. looks big enough
