Default Help me build rig for GF - $500 or less

Hey guys,

I'm trying to build a computer for my gf... Budget is $500, but I'd like to keep it under if possible.

She needs this purely for internet, music, school. She might want to play The Sims (I'll buy her the newest one, so, I'm sure any low end card can handle).

She is planning on using her 20" Samsung TV as a monitor (so either get a mobo with HDMI or DVI and i'll get a HDMI > DVI cable (whichever is cheaper)

As for the case... I have no idea.. I would imagine she would want something "cute..." I have no idea what that means, but I don't think she's into the Antec 900/HAF type cases (all the tech-bling).

Thanks guys!

I'd highly recommend 4GB of RAM though... I use over 3GB using just Vista and Vegas.

GTS 250 is overkill and even the stock cooler is fine.

That's because vista uses ram in a different way than xp does. The amount of ram that vista caches for superfetch and the like is huge. You must remember that vista will ditch things in cache if the application doesn't need the ram and something else does. This isn't exactly a gaming machine. It's just a daily user on the cheap with excellent components for reliability and enough graphics power for light gaming.

Edit : If 4GB are a must spend a little less on the case or the hard drive

Options

COOLER MASTER Elite 330 $39.99

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB $39.49
