Okay everyone here it comes!!!
__________________ I was on an AMD Athlon 64, 2.2 GHz HP Pavillion with 1GB of RAM for years until I finally bought a laptop for school and made the jump to dual-core about a year ago. I thought I was so kewl with my 2GHz Core 2 Quad and integrated Intel graphics. At this same time my step-dad and brother are building Intel/nVidia systems in the Antec 900 case with Core 2 Quad's and GTX 280/275's in SLI and such. Now it's my turn and I'm here to make a point... My step-dad and brother have always been Intel/nVidia fanatics and shun any "non-believers" or anyone who runs any AMD/ATI systems and now they must live with the fact that I will be the first in the family to build an AMD/ATI system in my brand new CoolerMaster HAF 932 case! My brother said I was a traitor, but has started to grow on the idea after reading more about the Phenom II's and how far AMD processors have come in the past couple years. I hope to prove to my brother and step-dad that AMD/ATI will compete with Intel/nVidia in any application including extreme gaming! ![]() I ordered all of my components today and will start to build my new AMD system in about a week. I plan to post a full build log with pics and everything and maybe even get my bro to give two thumbs up next to the case... LoL... I may have to bribe him for that one... ![]() Here are the parts: Case: CoolerMaster HAF 932 Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70 Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE CPU Heatsink: Cooler Master V8 Memory: 4GB (2x2GB) Patriot Viper DDR3 1600 Video Card: HIS HD4890 Turbo OC Hard Drive: WD Caviar Black 1TB Power Supply: Corsair TX 750W Monitor: Hanns-G HH-241HPB 23.6" I hope to buy another 4890 in the coming weeks so I can run CrossFire soon and my goal is to overclock my 955 past 4GHz, but we'll see how close I get. As for slightly further in the future I plan to run 3 4890's in CFX (assuming 3 way CFX improves) with my 4th PCI-E slot taken by an nVidia card that supports PhysX. I will also run my OS and games off of an SSD drive as soon as they drop in price. I'll be gaming on Razer gear (Diamondback mouse and Lycosa keyboard) and will be enjoying 5.1 surround in my Turtle Beach HPA2 headset... Let me know what ya'll think and feel free to post... I'll be back to update in about a week! ![]() ~Krucible

looks good. but just wait for the 5850 or 5870
![]() also, it's kinda tough to hit 4ghz with a 955be on air especially with a 64 bit os. so go with a 965be. since most 965be users here are hitting 4-4.2ghz

Get a 4870 or a 4890 for now. The 5000 serious is coming out very soon. Hell, I would even suggest just getting a 4850 for now. Unless your an extreme enthusiast, just wait. Prices on the top cards now will drop. A 4850 can play any game out right now, maybe not maxed, but it does just fine for today's games.

Yeah but I'm definitely an enthusiast and I gotta compete with my bro's GTX 275... LoL... Not to mention I gotta wait for the 5000 series cards to get kinks worked out and drop in price...

I love this whole situation! Congrats to you for willing to try something new, I think you'll have fun.
Make sure to really dial in your OC on both the X4 and the 4890, it will be important when it comes to Computer Battle! I can't wait to see your results, the build looks good. I think the real value is in the Phenom II's right now, my buddy put together a Phenom II X3 720 that he was able to unlock the extra core on and hit about 3.4Ghz. Not bad for $200 for board and chip. Oh, also I would just get the one 4890 and then wait for 5870/5850 especially if there will be a component of competition to this.
