Default First build (56k)

It started with an eMachines desktop I got for christmas in 2008. In April 2009, I got an AMD Athlon X2 and ATI Radeon HD 4650 for my birthday. And just now, I saved up enough money for a real case, motherboard, and PSU.

It's came a long way. Here's the latest evolution (and also my first real build).

Note to self: Don't take pictures with your legs crossed. You might end up with a toe in the pic.

Took much longer than I originally thought it would. First time though so I guess 5 hours isn't too bad. The whole thing runs great except the power button. I know it's plugged in properly but pressing it does nothing. Hitting the reset button next to it starts it up though so I'm not too worried.

I know the cables are a little messy but I didn't know what to do with a few of them. The back and top fans had pretty short cables so I had to run them down the side and bring up a couple power connectors to plug them into. And, I had to run the CPU power connectors up the side over my graphics card.

Switch the connectors on the Reset and Power buttons that should fix it

You seriously need to mod up that case. I smell a window in your future

Looks nice man. Five hours for a first build is much better than mine. Took me six months to finally finish EVERYTHING, and the thing still isn't completely done.

I thought about switching them, but my knee is right next to the power button and if I even tap that thing, the computer will restart instantly. Probably safer to keep reset as reset and just leave the power as nothing.

I would love to stick a window in this thing but don't really have the tools to do it.

Aaah gotcha. Makes sense

No tools? Damn.
Only as good as your tools mate.

Overall looks like a nice build. Can't wait to see what you push that CPU to with that board.

Thanks. I'm hoping for about 3.1GHz. Could only get to 2.75GHz before... stupid software overclocking

Use them BIOS
And try land a nice aftermarket HSF if you can. They really help with those higher voltage pushes.

Ah, I love how cases look right out of the box. Enjoy it while it lasts as it usually doesn't last that long.

That's why I'm selling my case for a new one

I won't get a new heatsink until I get my Phenom II x3 in about 6 weeks. I think I'll be ok with the stock one for now. It's only a 45w CPU so it runs coooool.

Why would it change over time? I plan on keeping this one in perfect condition. Won't be getting a new one for a really long time. Eventually I'll want an Antec 1200, but that could be a year or two.
