So, I've been picking out the components for a computer I plan on building in the next coming weeks. I'm pretty set on my GFX card decision, which is the Radeon 4890.

Looking around on the internet, I have been unable to get a straight answer as to what kind of PSU I need for this proposed build. I recently switched from something better than what I originally had (a ~$40 380W), and now tentatively am going with the Corsair 650W below. However, I'm trying to keep a tight <$800 budget, so if I could shave a little money off anywhere, I'd like to.

Also, If you experienced guys could just look over my build and tell me what you think, I'd appreciate it a lot.

Here's what I have going so far:

PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
GFX Card: XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit
Mobo: ASUS M4A77TD AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
Case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 534 RC-534-KKN2-GP Black Aluminum & Mesh bezel / SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Opitical Drive: LITE-ON DVD Writer - Bulk - Black SATA Model iHAS224-06 LightScribe

Is the PSU overkill? Could I go cheaper? Or is it just right? Also, I see it says it's compatible with i7, but it will work just fine with my Athlon CPU, correct?

I edited my last post because I copied and pasted that build from another thread. I switched some things out and some of the parts I left actually had their prices drop since I last put this together, so the final price should be a fair bit cheaper now
.

EDIT: I replaced the 955 C3 with a 1055T because I saw that you have the budget for it.

Antec 300 Steel ATX Mid-Tower Case -- $59.99
Powercolor Radeon HD 5770 512MB GPU -- $134.99
SeaSonic S12II 520-Watt PSU -- $69.99
A-DATA Gaming Series DDR3-1600 4GB (2 x 2GB) Memory -- $98.99
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD -- $74.99
ASUS Black DVD-ROM Drive -- $16.99
Phenom II 1055T CPU + Biostar TA890FXE Motherboard Combo -- $304.98

Subtotal is now $767.91

That is a GREAT build. No need to look further. You got a six core CPU with a beastly motherboard. Power Supply is SeaSonic so no need to discuss further. Only thing I'd change is the RAM. I'd go with G.Skill ECO's if you can squeeze it into your budget.

decimate, WOW, I'm impressed with your work. Yeah, I had the 4890 vs. 5770 debate going for a long time in my head. But the 5770 with DX11 is much more sensible. I'm also happy about the CPU core and mobo upgrade, all while keeping my price point. Thanks, I'll be going more or less with this build when it comes to purchasing time. :)
