Default It's time for "Not A Dell" to start

Well, seeing as my dirt bike is being sold tonight, I thought I might celebrate by opening a build log. Let's just say my attitude at this moment is...

I never thought my dirt bike would sell, but I am going to get 1400 for it. time for another great gaming rig to be built. Opinions, opinions, opinions. I want every comment or crit you can come up with.

It will be oc'd as far as i can go without being risky. I'm getting the Antec P180 and the additional 80 mm fan plus a TT Bigtyphoon on there for sufficient cooling. Also, my bedroom is as cold as hell, at night when I'll be folding it's like 16*C down there Do you think that'll allow me to go far in oc'ing?

Specs, here we go:

Antec P180 Super Mid-Tower
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester
TT Big Typhoon
Asus A8N32-SLi
eVGA GeForce 7900 GT CO
OCZ 2 GB Gold PC4000 XTC Gaming RAM
WD 250GB Caviar SE16 w/ 16mb cache
Enermax Noisetaker 600W
LG Supermulti DVD Writer/Dual Layer DVD
Creative Soundblaster Xfi Xtrememusic (PURCHASED!)
Logitech Z-5300e 5.1 surround speakers
BenQ FP91G+SB 19" w/DVI, 8ms
Logitech G5 corded gaming mouse (PURCHASED!)
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (PURCHASED!)
XP Home OEM w/ SP2

Will this be a nice gaming rig? I can finally afford something expensive. Good grades and a job pay off, I reccommend getting a job!

Stay in school, don't do drugs kids.

I have the same CPU/HSF as you do. It does VERY well at multitasking especially with the OC I have put on it. 2.6GHz all day and night. I do quite well at folding and the like with the machine. As far as games go it does well with my 7800GTX but I think a single core machine with a higher cache and clock would do better as far as FPS goes.

The BT is big. Really big. I had to cut a hole in the side panel of my case so it could get enough air. It keeps my temps at or below 50*C.

I actually have the same HD model you have posted above WD2500ks. It works well for me. It cut my load times in half compared to my old IDE drive. I think there's a bug with the S.M.A.R.T. function of it or the temps run pretty high. 50*C-70*C. It doesn't feel this hot to the touch though.

I'm not familiar with your DVD drive. My NEC works well and I'm sure that yours will too. I dont' see anything else except to envy your new monitor.

'grats.

i hope the hsf will fit in there... I don't really wanna cut a hole in the p180 cuz it's a triple layer material so it might defeat the purpose of getting it.

the fps isn't extremely high, but do games still run really well on it? I want to mainly play games but during schoolwork i multitask a lot. Would it be able to play FEAR on highest settings? Or Far Cry?

i play oblivion w/ "ultra high-settings" 1280 x whatever without hangups. Well... only 1 hangup. If i get 5-8 NPC's onscreen it slows down to about 15 fps.

good question. all my life i've had a dell. never a comp of my own, always the family's comp. i'm on a dell right now. its a p4 with a 64 mb geforce 4 mx 440 and 512 mb of ****ty dell ram. i can't even listen to music and go online without it taking 20 minutes to process a letter. i have no idea what a diff the new comp will do compared to this. i can't imagine what graphics and speed will be like

well it sounds like that dell has some problems but a custom build will be a nice upgrade.
