All a server is is a computer that is set up to basically run webpages (fileserver, mail server, etc.). If you are not running your hosting services when you are gaming (looks like you said when you are disconnected) there iwll be no difference. Adding a good vid card will in no way deteriorate your performance at all, the server, when 'serving' will basically ignore it, so you wont see any increase, but then again, when you are gaming, it would be worthless without one. I use a 'server' processor in my gaming machine, and it games awesome!

Basically, what you want to do is more than possible. If you game and run your machine as a server at the same time, you may come into some resource problems. If you simply game at one time, and run a server at another, you should have no problems at all.

It depends on what the server is being used for. If it is just hosting some webpages or a ventrillo server than gaming wouldn't really affect it at all. However if you were hosting a 24 Counter Strike server on it that would be a different story. Basically if you make a really badass server then you will be able to host games and still play at the same time. Putting a graphic card in a server is in no way harmful. They were just saying that you shouldn't since most servers aren't pulling double duty and the video card would be useless.

You guys are missing what he is asking!

He is asking if he can use the computer for two different purposes at DIFFERENT TIMES!!! Your proc/memory depends on the traffic you want to host during its server uptime. This is totally possible, just dont expect to play a game AND run a server at the same time withoutinvesting a LOT of money and getting a good chuck of bandwidth.
