Sure, you can always try to go higher. Remember to check temps though. 55C is a good cieling temp

Upgrading to PC3200 RAM (or better) would probably help. What FSB are you at? Might as well wait on trying higher until you have the new sink or whatever installed.

Default Overclocking my CPU

So I have an AMD 64 3200+ (754)... If the multiplier is locked my only option is to increase the FSB. So I guess my question would be how much should I push it with a retail HSF (~3200 RPM)? My motherboard is an ASUS K8N. I have PC3200 RAM also, so what would be the best combination for me?

Increasing your FSB is part of the process. While your increasing the FSB and keeping an eye on your temperatures. you may become unstable. when that happens, you may need to add more voltage to your core, or your ram to stabilize it.

You need to learn what the danger zones as far as too much voltage are before you attempt this.

Read some of the FAQs and threads to get a good foundation. then start a thread in the areas your unsure about.

Default OK, I am WAY confuse3d

This is a good place to post this. I am confused, and so is CPU-Z and CPU INformer (like I said b4, a great little proggy). Please lookat the thumbnail and give me some advise as to where on that wonderful chart this 3500+ is. A Newcastle, or a Clawhammer? Not that it really makes much difference to me, I'm just curious...

i just updated my bios for my motherboard to the newest version (GA-K8NSC-939) i went to the main options for overclocking (MB Intelligent Tweaker) but i cannot find anything with FSB or front side bus. I will list all the options i have in here, please tell me what to start with, where to go to overclock safely. I have standerd AMD cpu fan, 2 other fans (one connected to motherboard other to main ATX), but no money for a specialized cooling. the guide starts with setting my FSB to the lowest value(then setting memory timings and so on), i see nothing for FSB(not in that name/term).

MB Intelligent Tweaker

HT Frequency
CPU Clock
Current Memclock (Mhz) "Faded out"

Timing Mode (auto/manual)

x CPU / DDR Clock Ratio
DDR Speed
x CAS# Latency
x Min RAS# active time (Tras)
x RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd)
x Row precharge time (Trp)
x Row to Row delay (Trrd)
x Row cycle time (Trc)
x Row refresh cycle time (Trfc)
x Read-to-Write time (Trwt)
x Read preamble value
x Async latency value

AGP Clock
Hammer Fid Control
CPU Voltage Control
AGP Voltage Control
HT-Link Voltage Control
DDR Voltage Control

As for CPU i have a AMD athlon 64 3000+ (stock 1800 mhz) and 1 gig (2 chips) of DDr400 ram
