So I just failed miserably at attempting to OC my 5000BE. I'll be honest, I've never truly overclocked much of anything before. I had a Pentium 3 I messed with, but that is childs play. I didn't do much with my other X2 Windsor but try for 2.8ghz and decided it wasn't worth the effort and to wait for the BE.

So anyways I was in the Black Edition Club topic reading everyone's input on how they overclocked and what they did. I read a topic regarding overclocking on AMD boards and what each value and setting means and does. To make it short and simple I jumped to 3.0ghz and worked from there and was SLOWLY getting a stable 3.0ghz. But then I decided to start fresh and slow and decided to revert everything back but the RAM timings, which I had changed to 4-4-4-15 on DDR2 667 since my clock was about 230 x 13 and I read that a lower divider can help stabilize a system if the RAM gets to high. I was pretty much shooting for things I hadn't even tested. Stupid yeah yeah, so then I reverted everything back to default except for RAM timings and I don't know why, but I made it DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 which prevented my computer from even posting or anything on restart. So I reset CMOS by pulling the battery and what not and I'm here now all fine and dandy.

So here I am with a screenshot of my current setup. I NEED help on what the f I am doing. What confuses me the most is I thought the 5000BE was a 2.6ghz CPU, not 2.8ghz. My computer defaults it at these settings though.

that should sort out any of you rma issues. drop the Mhz of you ram divider just one lower then 667. now it should be running for a bit longer. Now you need to make sure that you system is stable. run memtest on your ram like 4 times after adjusting the timings.

once it passes you will know that the ram is not the issue. then you can work on your CPU

edit: keep it on 667 thats low enough.

Actually, my RAM came with no heat spreaders.
It is just low end ValueRAM.

It is the one weak point in my system. I should have gone with something higher end.

But that is why I have been hesitant to up my vdimm.

I have good airflow in my case, but no fans actually blow over my RAM.

i find that when i got my BE keeping the FSB at 200.9 then just upping the multiplyer helped me get to 3Ghz easy. 1.40vcore and i had some good temps with my tuniq. when i chucked on waqasr watercooling kit the temps where lower.

these chips run really cool compared to others.

I would say that you need way more vcore.

If you want it to be stable at 3.3 GHz, you should expect to be at about 1.47 voltage at minimum.

Just work your way up slowly. Don't add all that voltage at once.

I was getting the same errors in Orthos that you're getting when I was trying for a stable 3.3 GHz.

At 1.47 vcore, I couldn't get it stable.
I think the problem was my RAM though, but I haven't had time to look into it yet.

Right now, at 3.11 GHz Orthos stable after 13 hours, I'm at 1.42 vcore.

Good Luck
-Tim

Need more voltage. I've been running 100% rock solid for the last few months with my PC on and folding almost 24/7.

My settings:
200MHz bus
16x multiplier = 3200MHz
1.415v CPU core (you may need slightly more than this)
8 ram divider = 800MHz
4-5-5-11 Ram timings @ 2.1v

I may have got lucky with my CPU since it was fairly easy to OC to 3.2GHz, but 3.2 should be attainable.
Many people use the bus speed to OC, and that defeats the purpose of an unlocked multiplier.
