Default Stability Issues

I just got my GTS 512 today, have it up and running with the 169.25 driver.

For some reason however, the pretty much stable overclock I was able to get on Prime 95 at 3.23 Ghz now seems to fail. Also, my temp at load seems to have gotten 2 degrees higher from 56 to 58. What could cause this?

I was able to maintain my overclock on prime for 6 hours with 1.5v, now it fails pretty fast.

Perhaps your instability is caused by lack of power. Maybe the psu cant keep up with your new gpu, best to measure the 12v voltage with a multimeter under load to determine this. Also your temp rise could very well be because of the extra heat dump in the case from the new gpu. Perhaps add better fans, or try to optimize your case airflow. Placing a 120 fan blowing over the card coould help.

Citanzero, I use Everest to monitor voltages/temps. It's a very useful tool. I tried linking to the download page but it appears the website done for the moment. Here is the website address: http://www.lavalys.com/. I'm running the Ultimate Edition.
I can't imagine your power supply being a problem. Your PSU supplies plenty of power on the 12v rail (38amps) for a single 8800GTS video card and 600 watts is more than enough for what your running.

How much voltage are you running on your 5400+ ?

Good luck

Will add that the G92 put out some heat and take up alot of room (the 512 gts), but I guess we can't compare it to what you had before since you didn't mention it. Also the powering consumption on the gts 512 is 159watts idle and zomg 238watts at load. Hmm still have enough juice though. Check it out for yourself.
power

xdaseinx, that would actually be the full system consumption.

More power consumption tables including the 8800GTS G92: http://en.expreview.com/?p=72

Thanks guys, this forum is great. Rep to you all. I am tinkering still. I might be stable again at 3.18 but we will see. I am trying to stay at 1.5v, and also, i never OC'd the cpu much before this new GTS cause my zalman came inbetween my gts 320 and the 512. I started OCing with a reg old PCI card inbetween the RMA, and thats when i hit the 3.23 with stability.

Can consistent testing reduce a CPU ability to function? I mean i never went over 1.525 at the most on vcore and temps have never hit 60c

Citanzero, I don't see that being a problem. How is your memory? Perhaps maybe you need more vdimm. Have tried relaxing any of the timings to see if that helps? Back down the memory frequency, you might be overclocking that to much. I wouldn't worry so much on memory speed. With AMD processors, processor speed is the king. I'm not sure if this is right, you have DDR2 667 memory at 442mhz from the stock 333mhz? That's a 109mhz overclock. Maybe that is the issue. Correct me if I am wrong (my math isn't that great)

Good luck
