the sensor on these are not so great

im happily stable for a very long time with my opty 165, 2.7 ghz

memory wont go passed 450 mhz though, dissapointed with that

bu i use the stock HS, and i honestly thought it did such a good job that i didnt bother installing my 100% unused Big Tornado.

i will tell you right now those MSI neo4-F boards, you NEEED to replace that chipset cooler, MSI will give you a nicer one for free, and dont be surprised if you blow a PCI slot after 300 fsb =(

It could very easily be a sensor issue. You're running VERY near the same board as my fiance (MSI K8N Neo4 SLI), and she sees about 10-12*C difference in her cores on her Opteron 170 LCB9E. In my board that chip saw I kid you not 1*C difference TOPS. Her old X2 Manny saw near 35*C difference in cores (I know for a fact the chip has a bad sensor).

Temps wise, you're technically safe till you reach 65*C. Anything after that is personal preference. I've let our good ol' Manny hit near 85*C on the warmer core, and she's still alive and kickin at a mere 2.25GHz with 1.25v (0.1v undervolted).

I'd also like to recommend a bolt down Big Typhoon with a good fan. My fiance has one on her rig and she see's 65*C load temps with 1.50v and a bad seat job. Great cooler! I would personally steer clear of Zalman 9x00's...they're way overpriced. Get a blow down on the motherboard kind of cooler if you're in a somewhat tight case. If you're in a HUGE airy case like a Armor or A900, go with the blow out the back type cooler such as the TRUE or Tuniq Tower.

And you might even be able to reach your 2.7-2.8GHz with it undervolted. Look at my sig. I can reach 2.9GHz with only 1.30v (0.05v undervolted), and 3.0GHz I'll see 1.375v under load. Even though you're on the lesser known 175, I don't see why yours will overclock any differently than our 165's and 170's. After all, its the EXACT same chip under there, its just got a higher multiplier is all.

I wish you good luck with it. And I better see you join our 939 club, and case management contest! The top 3 winners of the contest win prizes (based off what place you win)...and the prizes are quite nice. But you MUST be registered as a 939 owner in our club to be eligible.

Happy overclocking!!!

EDIT: Noticed you may be looking for a new board. So yeah, you should probably enter our club and contest . I won't give away the details, but they're easily viewable on the first post in the contest. The first place winner will win something I'm 99% sure you'll be interested in .

! how would I go about getting that free cooler? I love free!

Not sure how I feel about a blown pci slot, but I wouldn't mind if it was the one that gets blocked by my gpu cooler

Well alright then! Make sure to check out the case mod contest then .

And I'd also like to know how to get a hold of a free chipset cooler from MSI. My fiance's board has a dead chipset fan, that I currently just have a 60mm fan zip tied to it to hold it off, lol.

I may post some pictures of my case's airflow and ask your guys' opinions on moving fans et cetera.

What cooler (blow down I guess?) would you guys recommend for me? That airflow pictures might help with this question too I guess.

Heres an eBay page for thermalrights. Not sure if you guys like ebay or not but...

another question: what NB cooler would you guys recommend if I can't get this free MSI one? I was looking for a TR HR-05 SLI, because my graphics card goes right over the NB, so it has to be the hr-05 SLI or a low profile.

Nate, I have the Thermalright HR-05 SLI and it's served me well. I had to modify the mounting hardware by changing the push pins to screws/bolts. I also I had to use some washers because my screws were to long. The push pins/springs really don't apply much pressure and the cooler can move around a lot when bumped. Other then that it cools very well. I mounted a 70mm fan on it using zip ties(supplied in the box).

Good luck man

yay for zip ties!
I just found (after cleaning my dad's work bench for 2 hours) a bag of white/beige zip ties. If I remember when I get home, I'm going to test one to see if its UV reactive at all.

My only concern is the price of the hr-05 sli. It seems a little overpriced for a NB cooler, and I think its performance gain is probably overkill for my application.

Also, what other NB coolers will work with my motherboards configuration? The cooler has to either be low profile, or come up and out like the hr-05 sli.
The NB is hiding behind my GFX card.

Nate, I have also ran this cooler on many boards: Zalman ZM-NB47J. It's a passively cooled chipset cooler. If you have quite a bit of airflow in your case then it should cool it substantially.

Good luck

no dice. Its 47mm high. I need one that can fit behind video card, or come up like the HR-05 sli. I believe there is 10mm between the NB and my Video card, but I'm not 100% sure because I have not removed my cooler to check more accurately.

I may have to fork out the dough for an hr-05.
