I'm now lapping! Lots of pix!
Currently at 400 grit, then I'm going to do 600 grit, and then I'm going to buy some 800 or 1000 and some 1200 grit. I already bought 1500 but nothing else between that and 600! Would I be alright if I went straight to 1500 from 600? Theres lots of copper dust in the pools of water

I lapped for about 2 hours on the 400 grit paper. Still needs a bit more until its 100% flat, the corners are still rounded up (I blame AC for that). When it is flat i will move on to 600 grit, and then either jump to 1500 or buy some 800/1000.
pictures tomorrow hopefully.

oh yeah pictures... still in the camera sitting on the coffee table
![]() I'm going to try dry lapping today, if it's too hard I'll add water though...Still at 400 grit until I can get it a bit flatter, there is still one side thats a bit uneven compared to the rest of the surface...

i use 200 grit for initial "cutting" to make it flat. goes pretty fast.. need to wear face mask and protective eyewear though.. dont wanna inhale or get that copper dust in your system! =P i guess that isnt a problem with wet sanding but i dont like how the heatsink jumps when used with water

it did the same jumps with dry sanding that it had with wet sanding for me
![]() Did it sort of vibrate for you? The type of jump that you get when pushing a rubber thing over a hard floor (Example: Rubber doorstop skidding on floor)?

The last time I did any lapping, I did get the judders.
I'm not sure how you can avoid those jumps and vibrations when lapping. But I do try to keep the paper and surface being lapped as wet as possible.

very disappointing temperatures.
Probably due to user error applying thermal paste (Cool Silver from AI Technology) Does anybody have any experience with Cool Silver and the amount of time I should let it burn in or set? temps at 54-63 degrees C, up from about 48-58 (core0-core1). Not so good... edit: Cool Silver is supposed to set and "optimize automatically" in 30 minutes. Hmm

I just used up the last of my cool silver...
Orthos temps are 57/66 (core0/core1). I don't have any Arctic Silver around... No thermal compounds at all actually... Temps are starting to drop, but are still way too high for my liking.. 49/60C maybe I messed up lapping? I can try some more with the 600 grit paper if I have to.
