well... playing TF2 for a little bit only yielded temps of high 30s and high 40s for the two cores.
Did ORTHOS after TF2 and mid 50s-mid 60s... Whats going on here?
I don' want anything in the 60s at any time, so maybe a new thermal paste, maybe re-lap, maybe new coolers...

Nate, if you don't mind me asking, what procedure did you follow when lapping?

Consider:

1.) TIM. AS5 or OCZ Freeze work wonders.

2.) Airflow. My airflow was holding me up 15C. 15C!! Check yo' flow, and get some mo'...

Thinker, I did about 15 swipes back or forth on the sandpaper up/down, then did 15 up-right/down-left, then 15 side to side, etc. rotating 45 degrees every 15 swipes.
Wet sandpaper and a little bit of soap on the HS. processor is not lapped btw.
Abilor, supposedly this TIM is better than AS5, but I don't know for sure. My airflow is very good btw (power supply is out of the case, which makes the airflow even better )

Nate, you probably need to do it a bit longer then 15 swipes back and forth. How long did it take you to complete this? Did you start from the low grit sandpapers and work your way up? My XP-90C took me almost 6hrs but that was my first lap. My SI-128 (which was already lapped I just relapped with 800 and 1500) took a few hours. I'm guessing I went back and forth at least 300-500 times per grit. It's a very long and interesting process

Good luck

I did much more than 15 passes total... 15 passes before rotating, but I did many rotations (I forget how many exactly...). It took a few hours, between 3 and 5.

Have you checked out the pictures of my lap job? I know they're not that good, but the non-blurry ones help to show the flatness of the HS.

Could the mounting of the Freezer?

edit: I just saw my cpu fan stop completely (and it just did it again, and a 3rd time, wow its still doing it). It spins up for a second, then off, then spin, then off. Is this because of low temps (CPU is mostly idle)? Because I don't think it spins full speed when it gets hot. Could my motherboard by screwing up? Or getting wrong temps?
stupid technology just phails for me...

Nate, is looks good but it doesn't look like you went up to far in paper. What was the highest you finished with?

Good luck

I'm going to do some ORTHOSing with the fan plugged into my fan controller instead of the POS motherboard, see what happens.

Nate, I'm assuming your running the stock cooler? That might explain for the poor temperatures. Also the stock AMD fan has a little green temperature sensor that control's the fan's speed when the temperature changes. This might explain for the odd behavior.

Hope this helps
