alright, i've just put 215cpu frequency, the multiplier and the voltage is locked. voltage to 1.3 and the multiplier to 11.5

so at the moment it is running at 52oC under load from toast and prime95 for 10mintues on standard cooling. is 52 to hot?

so at the moment its just under 2.5Ghz

Everything is looking pretty good, especially since your vcore is locked. Try to keep your temps under 55c load and everything will be just great.

ok i boosted it up some more now...tried 230 and it worked...tried 235 and i got the blue screen just before windows loaded.

i'll be keeping it at 230 for now (just under 2.7Ghz) under load its hitting 55c.

i still haven't got my cooler, this is running on the standard cooler. is there any point of me getting a better cooler if it is running fine now? i can't increase the vcore or multiplier so really the cpu is maxed out as 235 won't work when it hits windows. i think its the vcore that is limiting this not the cpu. i was told by a mate to up the mobo voltage up a very small amount? is this a good idea...i don't want to run the risk of burning out my motherboard. but if i did a 2.7 figure would be nice

i've been testing it with Prime95 and Toast at the same time, no errors have came back from prime. i'll probably run it overnight to see if it's getting any over a long period of time when under load.

is there a way of overriding the vcore? or multiplier? i've looked on the asrock site but nothing is there. also what programmes do you use to monitor your temperature

i've been using RMClock and hardwaresensormonitor. it's idling at 30c but RMClock says it's idling at 8.0c :S

would appreciate it if you guys could tell me some software to check the temps of the cpu.

thanks in advance.

edit...after running for about 3-4 hours now i got an error...the monitor went blank and with a blue box inside it said "attention, 102k/194hz, Frequency out of range" now running 225.....

anyone know what this is?

Well, before you give up all hope on your mobo and BIOS, you should try a couple of things. First I'd recommend that you look around in your BIOS a bit more, often you might not be able to set the CPU voltage higher ( not under that name) but you can "over volt" the CPU... and it will give you options like " +.0125v, .025v, ect". Other times those things are in your BIOS, but they're just hidden. So I'd try looking up a bit more info on your specific board. (if you havn't done that already)

Upping the chipset voltage can often bring some stability to the system, but usually that helps more when the FSB speeds are really being pushed (just like a cpu... if its running at 300, and was at 200 stock, it could use more power). You could try it, just do it one step at time and see if it helps. If it dosen't, then go back to stock.

Also, You might try flashing your bios to the latest version. Its pretty easy to do, and that can give you more options in your BIOS.

Oh and as for the CPU multi being locked... thats perfectly normal. All AMD cpu's are locked (upwards they are locked, but they can all be moved down) with the exception of the Black Edition processors. Thats what makes them such good overclockers, lots of flexibility.

Personally I use the hardware monitor that came with my mobo, and speedfan for temps... theres a link for where you can get it, and other awesome programs right HERE

i've already flashed my bios for the new version but i couldn't really see any changes, i think it was just support for the phemonem amd cpus.

i've just downloaded coretemp off that link you have me and it says that my cpu is idling at 7-9c i didn't think that was possible with a stock cooler. under 2% load.

haha, thats true... and I doubt that your house is that cold either. I havn't had good results with coretemp (It said I was idleing at 16c and 8c... yet my house is 23c...) Try speedfan, that works for me (my CPU temp is listed as temp1, not as core fyi). To figure out which temp is your CPU.... just load the CPU and see which temp takes off, and thats the one. Honestly I have no idea why the temps are off by that much in coretemp, i've heard that birsbane cores (like mine) are notorious for that... but never why (I have a friend with a 5000+ BE and he hasn't found anything that will read his temps right).

Thats to bad about the bios... but I know that there is a certain mobo manufacturer that hides their advanced settings, I just cant remember which one it is, or how to get into it... Well, i just looked it up, and its gigabyte that does that ( I cant immagine why). Maybe someone around here with more experience than I have with your mobo will be able to help out.

Oh and for the error... which program errored? was it prime95?

i'm not sure where the error came from, i left the computer for 2mins came back and the monitor was black with the message i said before, i thought it might be something to do with the gfx or something.

and thanks for you help you gave me logan through my overclocking process, i think i am done now and this OC will do me for now....

ASUS does it to, hide settings... With the mobo in my sig, I have to press F4 to get to the hidden settings.
