It gives you braggin rights that nobody else usually has.

You can do F@H on two cores and have the third core for yourself to use. That's better than a dual-core.

The thermal heat from a tri-core is less than a four-core CPU. Gives the option for using better air-cooling than having to spend more money on water-cooling.

The tri-core can access a tad more cache memory onboard since the un-used fourth core isn't available.

So the X3s are basically defective x4s with a disabled core?

Hmm they don't seem that great. I think you would better of getting a Quadcore instead.

i refuse to buy a product that was produced with 4 functional cores but with 1 disabled.

Quote:
Despite the technical specs, we noticed that some Dell employees think that the AMD Phenom processor comes with 128 KB of L1 cache, 512 KB of L2 cache, and 2 MB of L3 cache. However, it actually comes with 512KB L1 cache (128 KB per core) and 2 MB of L2 cache (512 KB per core). But they are spot-on when it comes to the amount of L3 cache. Thus, a triple-core processor actually has 384 KB of L1 cache, 1.5 MB of L2 cache and 2 MB of L3 cache. The reason for the odd numbers here is that one core is disabled for good, thus its L1 and L2 caches are gone.

I guess you refuse to learn more about CPU technology then. What, you think it's going to explode?
