well i just got done installing my new cpu an x2 6400+ BE!!! i like the performance gain i recieve over my x2 4600+ ...
my problem now is that having it at oem specs isn't enough anymore...i wana push it to 4.0ghz hopefully...i already planned that i should have a goal of 250fsb and 16 cpu multi. and drop the ht multi to 4 which would seem right on the money so far... my first question is where can i get a ddr2 table for cpu multiplier of 16??? second thing is that i cannot seem to walk my cpu up the 16 multiple at all...i even tried dropping my memory sooo low that it would never get out of range and it wont let me pass 212x16... now i am alittle rusty since i haven't overclocked or looked at overclocking since last winter... now i know that the memory has to be 1:1 etc. etc. but i am alittle foggy on it.... if my goal is 4.0ghz i would imagine that my memory would be around 1000mhz after the equation i plugged in but it does like it even when i loosen the timings from the original specs 4-4-4-12 2t 23 to 5-5-5-15 2t 24... i seem to have hit a brick wall...this 6400+ is totaly a new ball game compared to the low level cpu's... well i am going to run back through the equations and see about boosting from 3.2ghz to 3.4ghz and see how i do....i will drop the multiple probably from 16 to atleast 15 if not 14 and see if that can help my overclock...because right now i cannot even get passed windows booting up...will restart i didn't just go straight to 250fsb but that is a goal because 250 is the best round number i know...

timings isnt as important as the mem divider, put ur ram on a divider, 667 or 266, that way your mem will have more room to breathe and can increase ur milage on ur oc. work on timings after u got urself a good clock. and mem doesn't have to be on 1:1. so just put it on a divider..and make sure youre giving the appropriate volts to cpu and mem.

okay so i tried 240x15 which is 3.6ghz and i had the memory at ddr2 667 which at that cpu setting was 800mhz the ht i put at 960mhz (240x4) the temp at idle was still below 30C....
![]() i kept the timings at the default 4-4-4-12 2T...it would post after one to two tries and i got to my windows boot loader but once i selected xp pro x64 or vista ultimate x64 my computer would auto reboot... ![]() i had the voltage of the northbridge at +0.2volts, southbridge at +0.1volts, memory at 2.1 volts... i even tried having ht multiple at 5 which would be ht speed of 1200mhz but still wouldn't boot and one try it did and it blue screened!!! ![]()

Going Broke Overclocking
![]() |
Approximate the DDR2 667 by multiplying the CPU bus by .83
From what I recall, the 6400+BE may hit 3.5 to a rare 3.7 but, there is no magic settings and it will take some work to get it up there.

The highest I have gotten where the 6400+ BE was stable is 3.4, anything higher as soon as I started playing a game or run a program BOSD/Crash of somekind, maybe I did something wrong, I mean it is my first overclock since my P4 days, but other then that I know what to do alittle....

is it because it is a windsor and not a brizy and so the chip is inferior when it comes to overclocking??

To be honest, I have no idea, why. I've heard of people getting them as high as 3.6/3.7 range, but I asked if they were able to play games and run programs, each of them changed the topic soon there after, so I never got a full answer when asking...
__________________But from what I've tested the highest I could get it without crashing, and being stable was 3.4, I've run it now for alittle while and have had NO problems, temps didn't even go up...

An AMD at 4GHz is awesome. Good luck to your clock!

As a long time owner of this chip I will be the first to tell you that sadly, it will be very tough to get this past 3.5ghz on the Gigabyte board you have an "AUTO" and then 15.5 setting on your multiplier right? AUTO basically = 16x multiplier.

i had it on 16 and was trying to step it up gradually to 250....but i didn't get really far...i then dropped it to 15 and tried to step it up to 240, u also have lowered the memory that way it wouldn't be in the way...i am thinking of retrying for 3.6ghz and see how occt and ordus takes the chip if i can play games it is staying at 3.6ghz....
if i can get 4ghz without sub zero cooling then i believe that anything can be overclocked .8ghz i really believe that all mobo's have the potential but just the understanding of the operator keeps the overclock limited...
