I believe the problem is that the surface of the HS is not smooth enough to transfer heat effectively...

Plenty of good HS out there, what exactly is your budget?
I would go with either of these, they're some of the best coolers on the market right now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233001 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233003 The last one (120mm S1283) is better (on par with the OCZ vendetta 2, and about the same as a stock TRUE, but $30 less), but it is large, so make sure you have the space before you order it. The other one is the 92mm version of the same model, slightly less cooling capacity, and smaller. Good luck

Well, unless there is something in particular that you like about that HS, I would probably try something different. The artic cooler is cheaper (no shipping charge), and should perform better. If neither of the coolers that I linked you to are quite what you want, try at least looking for something with heatpipes (far more efficient, thats why I wouldn't recommend the one your looking at, no heatpipes), and the ability to mount a different fan on it if you'd like (if a build in one fails... your out of luck, or if you want more performance down the road).
Anyway, theres my 2 cents Good luck

Clean BOTH the CPU IHS and heatsink base with panit restorer then polish off and finally finish with Isopropanol/ Acetone before applying a grain of rice sized drop of MX-2 to the IHS and pressing the heatsink down firmly, twisting side to side then locking her up. Let BIOS decide what yr VCore should be by loading optimized defaults too

I agree wholeheartedly with most of that... except letting BIOS set voltages. Usually BIOS does an ok job of getting it right, but I've seen a few times when things were really wrong (my friend had this problem two weeks ago, his BIOS set his vcore at 1.55v, instead of the 1.35v that it was supposed to be at). At least check that the voltages are correct if you let it decide.

Hi Chi1,
I know this topic is rather old, but could you resolve the overheating issue? How? Thanks SAFAI |

Hi Chi1,
It is difficult to understand how installing windows 7 has fixed the overheating problem. I suppose it is managing the idle temperatures better. Thanks for sharing it anyway. Cheers SAFAI |
