Not necessarily... others with SB600 get good overclocks. My buddy got 3.4Ghz with 9950 but he had a golden motherboard. You guys should easily hit 3.2GHz but you need voltage. Try 1.5-1.55V temps permitting. I got 3.3Ghz out of 9850 with 1.52V.

Yea, but i doubt he is gonna wana push that much voltage thru his chip, or his motherboard is a golden one, but only one way to find out. not sure how far he has pushed his voltage so far tho.

Guys do not necessarily worry about voltage on these chips. worry about temps. All Phenoms will take up to 1.6V without a hitch as long as temps stay under 55 full load on a long run. I agree 1.55V is much better but I ran up to 1.55V on my 9850 for years. I can easily run 1.6V on my Phenom II 955 but remember, I have good cooling. Whatever volts you run is OK as long as temps are under 55.......

March 27, 2008 was the release date for the 9850 Black Edition (even later for the non-BE). Therefore, you would be just over a year with a few months if you bought it on the release date. I don't know how healthy 1.5v+ would be for any current CPU...

just gotta say that I love that avatar
I really don't think I'm getting something right, I have a cooler running one and I can't get the durn thing to run a 15x multiplier... is it a vista thing that won't let these things shine or something?

Although the release of the AMD Phenom processor series took place back in November of last year, roughly four months ago now, the highly touted quad-core processor has received limited action so far in the computer world and a lot of negative press coverage for reasons we have documented well enough during all this time.

Wrong my friend. Funny . I have had the chip about 2 years. Got mine early.............If you do not know how healthy it would be, then why comment. 1.55V has been used by many(of course with proper cooling). If you read my above reply, you are golden as long as temps are below 55 deg full load stress test. I am giving advise on real life experience. I am very experienced at this chip as I got 3.3GHz stable out of her. All My Phenoms need 1.5-1.58V for a great Overclock. I stuggled with my 940 @ 3.72Ghz but had real good luck with the 9850 and as you see by my sig....3.857 on 1st overclock with 955. I run 64 bit now with 8G of ram so I had to back the 955 down a bit under 3.8Ghz. i am honest guys... Bump the voltage.... The chip likes it.
