Default Best Cooling for an Amd 5200+ 65W?

I'm about to order an Amd Athlon 5200+ 65W 65nm AM2.
My question is which will be the best fair choice of air cooling around 20 Euros.
CPU costs 61 Euros. So more than 20 Euros for just the cooling are a bit too many.. I'm intended to get the 5200+ and overclock it as much as I can. So I'd need great cooling. What would you suggest?

(Cooling should be around 20 Euros)

That's about... $31... $32? That's about what Xigmatek HDT-S1283s go for here in the states and would also be my top pick for a cooler.... it's probably the best back:buck HSF out right now, especially considering that it compares to the well known Tuniq Tower... it also comes with pushpin retention at stock, which leaves room to upgrade to bolt through retention for extra pressure/cooling when funds permit (allowing it to BEST the Tuniq)... the fan can also be upgraded down the line - but that goes without saying

If prices over there are higher and you REEAALLLY have to keep that $20 Euro budget, the next best option would be an Arctic Cooler Freezer 64 PRO (they used to be 939 only but I believe they've updated it to support AM2)... Regardless, i would still seriously consider digging a weeeee bit deeper into your wallet as the Xigmatek isn't that much more expensive and performs significantly better

Good luck on your air cooling escapades! Feel free to post or PM if you have any other Qs

I agree wholeheartedly with the previous post. Took the words right out of my mouth.

The Xigmatek S1283 should cool your CPU approximately 5-7c cooler than the arctic cooler, so it really is worth the extra money, if you can afford it. Although, that cooler is large, so make sure it will fit before ordering.

Good luck

Ok, CPU value is $94 in USD.
Budget for cooling is $30.

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 costs $50 here..
I got my eyes on this one from thermaltake
http://www.overclockersonline.net/in...um=1281&pnum=4
how does that compare to arctic freezer 64 pro or XIGMATEK HDT-S963?

These look fine for my budget.. I wouldn't like a more expensive cooler because as you can see the CPU is cheap too..

Well, Honestly, that cooler you linked to doesn't look impresive at all. In fact, if you look at the graphs, It actually gets beat by the stock opteron cooler. You should probably try to find something better if you plan on overclocking.

THe Xigmatek 963 is pretty good, its the little brother to the S1283, and it performs slightly better than a artic cooler, so if you can get a good price on one of those, that would probably do you well.

Oh and how much does a OCZ vendetta 2 cost over there. Those are actually slightly better than the Xig S1283. Its worth looking into at least.

OCZ vendetta 2 costs $63 here.. (converted from EURO).

So you suggest Xigmatek for CPU cooling..

I guess I will go for the HDT-S963 which I can get for only $28.
Now the total of the new CPU + Cooler will be $122 which is fine.

Thanks for the help!

Yea, its a close call between the 963 and the artic cooler, but the 963 is usually cheaper, and seems to have a slight (1-2c) edge on cooling, so its deffinately the way to go.

Good luck with your build

The AC Freezer 64 Pro will be more than enough cooling power for any 65W processor. With room temperatures of around 25C-26C it keeps my lapped processor under 50C @ 1.5v (loaded)
