Default Bootup failure

Alright,
I'm totally stumped.
My spec is not in my sig so there it is:
Athlon X2 6000+
Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro
Gigabyte MA790FX-DS5
4GB OCz PC2-6400
8800GTS 512MB
Samsung 280GB HDD

I overclocked the Athlon to 3.335MHz (230x14.5, 1.425v) and it passed orthos no prob, ran @ 39 idle up to about 48 - 50 under load, no drama.
It was happy times for the last three months and all of a sudden it won't boot. I get as far as the initial Award screen where it does a quick mem check and drive check after which BIOS simply freezes. RAM shows up in full, both my DVD-RW are listed, HDD is found and also correctly listed.
Once it gets to "Detecting IDE drives..." on IDE 5 (and none are found as I haven't got any) BIOS seizes to respond altogether.

I can't even access BIOS settings, I can press Del all I want, I do get the message "Prepare to enter BIOS settings" but BIOS freezes nonetheless so I can't even diagnose the problem.

What really worries me is that MA790FX-DS5 should boot up no matter what apparently, it features Xpress recovery and I should be able to at least get to the settings on default, no?

Has the processor burnt out? On 1.425v? I thought it had it real cushy, really.

The mobo was bought in April and 230MHz appears fairly tame for this one as I had managed to clock it to 285MHz initially!

Please let me know cos I'm rather upset, I would have to wait months to buy an SB750 mobo + Phenom combo and I can't survive without a comp. I can't produce any screenshots (obviously), I'll try to get a photo of the screen on my phone and post it here as soon as I can.

Thanks for any suggestions and experiences guys, please help out, cheers, marrow

I know it sounds silly but I've never done it before - do I just pop the battery out and pop it back in after 10 secs?

better way would be to find the CMOS jumper, and remove it and replace it after a couple minutes.. you should be able to find it in your manual.. if not, remove and replace the battery

Yeah, remove the battery and wait about 10 minutes. Your BIOS and clocks will reset

I've had bad HDDs prevent me from entering the bios. Just to see if it is a HDD issue, unplug the HDD and see if you can get into bios.

Nice one, thanks.
Will try that too; although if the HDD is dead I will probably go nuts (sod business appraisals, I have 250MB worth of priceless savegames on my HDD!!).

As it turns out unplugging HDD lets me into BIOS no problem.
I plugged it into every single channel (master/slave the lot) and it fails to post every time. What I find strange is that the HDD revs normally hmmm...

Thanks mate, I appreciate your help!

No problem. Once you have a new HDD loaded with a new OS, you might be able to use a SATA to USB adapter to access the old HDD and pull your info off of it. These are standalone adapters, or you can just use an external 3.5" HDD enclocure to do this.
