Intel was showing off 5Ghz back when they showcased THEIR 45nm

1. This isn't AMD showing their best produced chip. It's just a mere ES used for making BIOSes. This guy is from an IHV it seems.

2. The fact that this is air cooled pretty much rules out the 1.6V possibility. It's a misreporting by the immature BIOS.

3. We still have 1 more stepping to go. If you remembered, B2 Phenoms vs B3 Phenoms vs the newest B3s (125W 9950), it's quite a big improvement.

I hope they make a better clock-for-clock improvement. Thats where AMD has had success in the past - they need to bring it back!!!!

While Intel was boasting pics of 5 ghz on the 45nm Core 2's that is still impossibly hard to reach. I highly doubt AMD will have the magic 4.0 number down this time around but they can always improve clock-for-clock performance like they did back with Athlon64 where a 2Ghz Athlon would absolutely smoke whatever pentium Intel had back then. I liked it then... things were awesome then

I'm kind of hoping that with Intel dropping socket 775, that going with an AM2+ motherboard with the SB750 will be adequate enough for at least the early Deneb's, and will let me save some money from going with i7 (too expensive for me)

Here's to hoping that AMD can be an overclocking competitor too!

They are already price gouging, but since we overclock, we can buy cheap and negate the difference a bit.

But if that REALLY needed 1.6 volts, then maybe it's still not time for AMD to be a heavyweight overclocker.

I refuse to go i7. Intel's CPU prices are okay, but DDR3 and X58 will definitely not be cheap, even in Malaysia.

And speaking of which, I have less confidence in i7-920's OCing capability than in Deneb's. Intel guys seem to dodge that question. All current OCs are using that unlocked multi, which will only be in the 965.
