Thanks, but already checked all these details. Jumpers set to FSB 200MHz, and even tried manual FSB setting in BIOS. Neither makes a difference.

Random thought... it could be the battery on the Mobo... If that wears out, then no settings will be saved, and it will reset to defaults every time.

Good luck

The mobo FSB is set to 200MHz (400MHz DDR) by jumpers, and in the BIOS/CMOS, so I wouldn't expect a battery fault to reset to anything less than this.

Appreciate your thoughts tho... thanks!!

I had this problem with my Athlon XP 2200+ way back when... I thought someone musta walked in my room took apart my rig and switched CPU or something, so I took it apart, looked at the CPU, made sure it was my CPU, then put it back in. After that it worked fine. Mind you, I was less knowledgeable and just popped it back in without cleaning and re-applying thermal paste, but I didn't overclock then and it worked fine. xD

But then again, a few weeks later my PSU fried and took out everything including the RAM, mobo, HDD, GPU, and CPU. The only thing left working was my sound card and my CPU heatsink xD

Hope that helps :S

LOL... sorry, I don't mean to laugh.

I didn't have a clue what thermal paste was until recently, but when I removed the CPU fan to look at the CPU itself, I decided to smear the 'white sticky stuff' around before I popped the fan back in place.

Obviously, I'm no expert, but it sounds to me like your mobo was the route of the problem if it cooked all the other components. Hey... what do I know?!

I must say though, the whole reason behind me raising the subject in the first place is that I've looked at eBay, and I think I can get a few bucks by selling the working parts - just need to know which bits are working before I list them.

Any change I make out of a sale naturally goes to my new desire to overclock everything in sight!!

Thanks for the warning about the paste in any case

Thanks for the suggestion.

I managed to hook up an old FDD and update the BIOS. The BIOS update was successful, and I reset to all the default values. However, this still did not make a difference in the CPU or FSB reported by the BIOS.

I'm wondering... as the FSB is set by jumpers to 200MHz (pre-multiplier) but the BIOS always reports this to be 133MHz, should I assume that it is the mobo that is fried and not the CPU?

Any thoughts on the matter?

This happened to my sempron 2800+, suddenly turned into a athlon mp 1600+ or something similar, not sure how to fix it though, (its a 7/8 year old PC >.<)
