Hi,
__________________My old system was running AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton (AXDA3200DKV4E) on AsRock K7S8XE. The CPU was running at 2.2GHz for years without problems, and was NEVER overclocked. All of a sudden, the CPU started running from start-up (BIOS/CMOS) at 1.4GHz, and the mobo reported the chip as being AMD Athlon XP 1900+ I tried resetting the BIOS/CMOS to default, but the CPU never regained its original 2.2GHz core speed. I can still get it to boot WinXP if I reduce the CPU FSB to 166Mhz (pre-multiplier). My question is simply this... Is it likely to be the CPU that has failed, or likely to be the mobo, or is there anyway I can check this without buying more stock? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure, maybe the mobo is gone. But tip: DO NOT. BUY ASRock. They're a lower level company in terms of quality and overclockablity. Go for brands like Asus, DFI, Gigabyte, Foxxconn and eVga.

check your fsb and multiplier on your mobo. it could of gotten reset. when i had a amd cpu(3800 x2) i remember once on my evga mobo it said it was a 2400 or something. i cant remember how i fixed it though. I will give it some thought and try to remember.

First I'd turn it off, press in the power supply connectors to the mobo. Boot into bios, hit "optimize defaults" and save. See if that brings it back.
If not, turn off, unplug the psu. Pull battery and jumper. Wait 5 minutes, replace, plug in and boot. See if that helps.

Latest BIOS is v2.20 Unable to flash BIOS, as this requires a floppy drive (don't have one installed). Tried BIOS update using a USB flash drive. Mobo recognised flash drive was there, but could not boot from it. Any ideas?
