You do realize that most games DON'T use all 4 cores.
have fun with your 2 idle cores.

a dual core is PLENTY POWERFUL for all current games. in fact, I'd be more worried about having a better graphics card than I would a better CPU.

and I do know what it's like to want more power out of your chip, that's why I'm very happy I got this BE-2400 for 25 dollars, and overclocked it from 2.3ghz to 3.1ghz

BUT I don't need a quad core. there aren't enough games that maximize all 4 cores. Except valve games, but Valve games running the source engine will run at 100fps with basically ANYTHING you give it.

hahaha yeah true. when i had my Athlon 5200+ oc'd to 3ghz, i still couldnt max out all of my games. (Gears of war, crysis, assassins creed, oblivion) now they run nicely with 40+fps... when i come across 400 or so dollars, im getting a 4870x2 or a gtx280 (if the ati drivers still suck)

don't get either of those.

Get the GTX260 (core 216) then just overclock it.

it's REALLY REALLY hard to fry stuff by overclocking. just read up on reviews and look at what other people have overclocked their parts to and with what temperatures.

I have never broken anything by overclocking it too far.

though, a friend of mine did manage to break a video card when he decided to move the rivatuner slider to some insane core clock speed of over 1000mhz

I suggest you NOT to buy any nvidia cards yet, wait til the 295 gets released and most of the card's price will drop.

no no no, the idea is, that once the 295's come out ALL THE OTHER CARDS will drop in price. THEN you should jump on getting the gtx 260
