Question OC a 9600BE

Hey everyone!

I just upgraded from an Athlon 64 X2 5200+ to a Phenom X4 9600BE(2.3ghz stock).

ive tinkered around a bit with simple settings like Core Clock and so far I can't seem to get it over 2.5ghz. i researched this before i purchased and found these processors seem to not work over 2.5ghz because of a faulty core...

what can i do?
im hoping to push it to atleast 2.8ghz

you're kind of stuck. if you can, return the chip and get a 9650

i hate the fact that AMD made a mistake and they are making us pay a bit more to get something they shouldve done the first time around. pathetic...

AMD really let me down this time. ]:

You should be able to get a little more out of it. Have you tried raising the multiplier? I had a 9600 and a 9600BE and they both seemed to top out at about 220 FSB. But since you can change the multi on the BE it could go higher (but not much). I think I got mine to 2.6. The multi didn't like going over 12.5 and the FSB over 220, but not at the same time. I think I had it at 12.5*210 to keep my RAM in check. And that was around 1.3V, it didn't make a difference if I raised it.

They made a chip that runs perfect at stock.
They do not officially support overclocking on their chips, therefor, they made no mistake.
Everything is a gamble in the overclocking world, just look at the new Q6600:
most of them can't even hit 3.6 anymore.

That's like saying you bought a 09 civic, put 25 pounds of boost through it, and wanting a new civic because you killed it.
Honda will say no, because they made the car to run perfectly at stock, and don't support aftermarket upgrades.

Then why did they make the Black Edition? What was the point in making an unlocked processor "for enthusiasts" that cant even go higher than 2.5!?!?!?!?!? This is a huge mistake for them to make.

PGT96AJT:
What do you recommend? clock or multiplier? when i put the clock over 215, stabability tests fail after 4 minutes on AMD Overdrive. (btw, temp is consistently between 28c and 32c)

agreed on those points.

it also seems, that despite the q6600 being a little better than the phenom II clock for clock, the Phenom II can overclock MUCH higher than the q6600, which negates that small performance difference.

the problem is that the 9600's were glitched, but they released the chips anyways with a bios patch (that destroys 10-15% of your performance)

then later they released the B3 revision labled as the 9x50 series.

really though, I think you should've gotten a 7750 BE. they're dual core phenom's that overclock pretty well from what i've seen.

but im a serious gamer, so i need the performance a quad gives me...

i know this sounds greedy but i run all my games just fine right now on highest settings except crysis(duh), but i want even MORE power out of my processor. u ought to know how it feels to want to try to just squeeze those tiny little bits of performance! XD
