Some sexy advice would be nice this is also my first post so hello to all!!
__________________Ok so the story begins with the stock clocks and stock cooling with AS5 as the thermal paste. Stock clock is 2.6 ghz. temps: 35/46. Prime95 for 24 hours reaching temps @ 61 degrees all cores at 100% which is not too bad for stock cooler. However, because this is a Black edition.... i decided to change the clock multiplier from 13X to 15X which resulted in a sexy 3.0 ghz. played crysis and tf2 for 3 hours maximum temperature was 52 degrees in crysis. Idlling at 37-38. also did a 3dmarks06 with an improvement of 12477 to 14003. This was very significant for me. If i could keep this stable........ So I asked, why not check the stability with prim95. Started prim95.... 0 seconds in... error... hardware failiure.... im like o____O. Tried OCCT... 0 seconds in error in Core #3 so i put everything back to stock i was reading around and found this suggestion: "Raise the multiplier to 15 or 15.5. Set the Vcore to 1.25-1.28. 200x 15 or 15.5 = 3.0GHZ or 3.1GHZ respectively. You can OC you GPU also with the autotune in CCC. Say 840 freq and 985 mem, don't go crazy on the GPU." http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/25...-black-edition IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ THE WALL OF TEXT: A. ) Buying a Coolmaster V8 will help with any temperature problems so that will not be an issue so offer all the advice without worrying about the stock cooler. B. ) How to pass the prime95/OCCT test with an oc of 3 ghz. I want this stable and cool. Do i have to manually set my ram timings and voltages and are there any suggestions for what numbers to use? C. ) Full Specs: AMD Phenom 9950 Black edition 125 watts (currently stock cooler) ASUS M3N72-D 750a sli mobo 2X2=4 gigs OCZ Sli ready ram 800 mhz ( yes i know i made a mistake of not buying PC2-8500) COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case ASUS Darkknight edition 9800 gtx+ stock clock D. ) I cannot use AMD overdrive (due to my motherboard) must change settings throught the BIOS. My main goal is stability by passing the prime95/occt test for 24 hours. E.) ![]() ![]() ![]()

Just remember it's a voltage thing. The higher the voltage the more stable yet more hot it will get. Your temps are fine. You need a AMD guru to guide you properly.

i think my memory might be the problem
__________________here is the timings and voltage it should have: Cas Latency 5 Timing 5-4-4-15 Voltage 2.1V Heat Spreader Yes Features Nvidia XTC Heatspreader 2.2V EVP the problem is that the only thing I see is the core #3 not being stable... also the whole point of a black edition is to unlock the multiplier (thats why i paid extra). Its pretty dumb that overdrive does not work with my motherboard and the asus ai utility only lets you raise the fsb. However, i like where you are going with this.

Let me just start off with: Temps are not fine! If you are hitting 61C on load, then you have a major problem. The max temp of these chips is like 64C.
I know you're getting a new cooler, but hold off on the OCing until then. It is perfectly fine to raise the multi instead of the reference clock. If it makes you feel better, I can't get a stable 3 GHz. I've tried every combination of multi/ref clock from 12x to 15x, one half-step at a time, and I've pushed the voltage all the way up to 1.47v. I recommend overclocking only from the bios. Make sure you take as many settings as possible off of auto. Try to manually set all the voltages. Make sure no power-saving settings are enabled.

Which 9950 do you have? the 14pw, or the 125w? Also, the temps are a bit high, but you're already fixing that, so I wont spend any time with that.
You're ram timings shouldn't be a problem at all right now, since overclocking through the multi, effectively leaves the rest of the system at they're stock settings. So if you're ram is at the stock settings and speed, it should be fine. It probably needs more vcore, but with your temps were they are, I wouldn't try it untill you get the new cooler. in the mean time, you can try a lower OC, and it should be stable (try the 14x multi). Good luck EDIT: also, AS5 has a curing time, so your temps should go down over the next couple of days, but probably not more than about 2-3c. The coolermaster V-8 will help out alot.

i think i am way past the curing time but i was wondering if i applied it properly
__________________The processor is a the 125 watt one My vcore @ 1.36 was not enough?... that seems strange considering i have seen 15X @ 3ghz with 9850 BE in other threads around here? @ 1.3v Maybe it is the mobo that is causing these problems? I will try out 14X @ stock cooling tonight Thank you all for your help so far! + REPS TO ALL THAT TOOK AT A SHOT AT IT

There are multiple ways to apply TIM, but none of them are better than the others, as long as you didn't put on to much, or to little.
Most high 9950 and 9850 OCs use alot of voltage, so the 1.3625v might not be enough. The main reason that I say that though, is the fact that since its shouldn't be the ram, shouldn't be the SB or HT... so its probably the vcore. Good luck

thank you for that reply and i am guessing that increasing the voltage is not a good idea till the cooler arrives
