I've read a couple different places that Phenoms don't overclock quite as well in 64-bit Vista. I've been using the 32-bit Windows 7 beta for a while now, but I recently got more ram, and I figured I'd give 64-bit a try so all of my ram is utilized. I have a feeling the results would be the same in Vista and 7, but has anyone tested to see if Phenoms don't overclock as well in all 64-bit operating systems, or is it just Vista thats slowing it down?
__________________I'd also be interested to know because sometimes I use Linux, and I wouldn't mind switching that over to 64-bit as well.

I don't think this is specific to Phenom cpu's. I think a 64bit OS stresses the processor in different ways than a 32bit OS. But yes I have seen this effect.

It is not just Phenoms. Vista x64 is not as tolerant of overclocks.
Some people will never notice. When I switched I lost about 20 MHz. Others will notice a more significant impact.

Phenom I's don't oc well on the sb600 board.. like yours. Now if you wouldve gotten a newer board with sb750 then you could see higher clocks.
But 64 bit makes no difference... Also get an after market cooler This is what I have and its awesome!

Their results show that Vista 64-bit does make a difference. I'm just wondering if this is something that all 64-bit operating systems have in common, or if its a Vista specific problem. @Master Chief: I'm thinking of ordering the Xigmatek Dark Knight this weekend.

Good. Well 32bit OS'es are a thing of the past so you should be looking at 64 bit cause 32 wont use all of your RAM...

Thats 100% wrong. Weve tested it a bit in the 720 thread and a few of us run windows 7 x64 and vista x64 and xp 32bit. You will boot into windows32bit under a more questionable OC then you will x64. Everytime Ive done it and i will fail to boot x64, ill go right to 32bit and ill get right in. I will fail OCCT1hr Hard test because it wasnt a good OC but it would boot.

its harder to overclock in any x64 OS, you take more voltage to maintain the same overclock you had on a 32bit OS. So i overclocking in x64 and make it as stable as possible so it will b stable in 32bit. for me i can hit 3.3ghz on 1.43v in 3bit or even as low as 1.41v but to run x64 i need at least 1.45v with ACC on it goes up to 1.48v. so ea x64 OSs do make a difference in overclocking as it stresses the CPU even more
