Default Instable CPU or just Vista?

I have had this problem ever since I installed Vista, I never had this problem with XP.

Ok here is the problem. Vista reboots occasionally when I do very menial tasks such as opening the control panel, changing my desktop wallpaper, and approving new programs to run. I never had this problem with XP, and I tested this overclock a while ago on XP and it has proven to be 4 hours OCCT stable.

I never have experienced problems when gaming or folding. I just want to know is this a Vista problem or a OC related problem?

NOTE: before the installation of Vista I installed a new 4GB dual channel memory kit. If that makes any difference.

Memory change could make a difference. Drop it down some and see if you can get it stable long enough to run some test.

Also, it's unstable.

Okay I'll run the test again. Even though I think its Vista.

If the test fails, you think upping the voltage by a small increment would help?

On the right note, VISTA is a resource hog. Your overclock will most likely be too high with VISTA. Back the overclock down or increase your voltages a tad and you should be ok.

Had a couple suspicious spontaneous reboots in Vista while it was idle. I dropped my CPU back to stock and have not had an issue since. If the CPU is not overclocked I would put it down to bad RAM. If the CPU *is* overclocked I suggest bringing it back to stock first.

Bad RAM might have came from there or aliens brought it..

Retest it with OCCT. Sometimes stability with OC-s differ from XP to Vista.

Different OS will have different stability levels.
Stable in XP does not equal stability in Vista or *nix.
Go to stock settings and see if it does it. Did you install Vista while overclocked? That can cause stability issues also.

Also, have you run Mem test to make sure the new RAM is good?

Wow, welcome to last year.
Vista is no more a resource hog than XP was when it came out.

Guys don't scare him he installed new Ram and most likely this is not the culprit. VISTA is a resource hog and this is most likely the problem. New Ram is hardly ever bad. Two of you suggested this and if you read the original post by OP you can see the #1 thing is the operating system. We need to start there. Back down OC or slightly increase vcore voltage and/or ram voltage.

If I had a dollar for every guy in overclocking forums that suggested bad Ram when it wasn't, I WOULD HAVE A LOT OF MONEY! lol
