Default Hey so I just got my 720BE up and running, but stuck @3.4ghz

Ok so I got myself a 720BE and a TA790GX 128M Motherboard.

ACC, unlocks the 4th core flawlessly. Which is a yey, wasnt even expecting this. Stable all the way up to 3.4ghz, but pushing 1.4 on the vcore.

Thought I seem to be stuck at 3.4, even as high as 1.5volts will not stabilize it @ 3.6ghz. I can boot into Windows, but I BSOD seconds after starting a stress test.

-Powersupply is a bit weak I know, but no visible Vdroop, and I theoritically should be able to do 3.6ghz @1.425volts.

Also I have no idea what my temps are, core temp and AMD overdrive senors all reporting something whack, especially with ACC on.

Speedfan is reporting some numbers that seem like they could be correct temps, but they never move up or down, on idle or load.

anyways here is a screeny, and please any tips on how to get to at least 3.6ghz, (which is my goal for the 720BE) and please help me make sense of these temp readings.

EDIT I guess its the 4th core isnt stable.
I ran prime95 for 8hours on the same settings with 3cores, now it BSOD on me while typing this and running PRIME withing 10min.

Most current BIOS?

Edit - Nevermind, 3.4GHz on four cores is pretty good. Might wanna inquire with whe3ls about the fourth core and its OCing.

heck atleast you guys are able to unlock your core and get 3.4ghz+, mine wasnt stable with only 3 cores. I could not go past 3.2ghz regardless of how much voltage I fed it, started at stock and worked my way up in .01 increments and still no good thats ok I got my 955 now

How many amps does that PSU have on the 12v rail? I am running a similar setup, also with a 430w PSU. I never hit more than 3.6GHz stable with my current setup, but I believe that it could be my board that is limiting me in that respect, rather than something else.

I agree with whe3ls, it sounds like you just might need some more volts in there, although 1.5v is starting to get up there.

Have you tried adjusting the NB voltage at all? I raised mine, and it helped me push a little bit farther, and when it failed a stress test, it didn't always BSOD on me like it did before.

For the temps have you tried the HW monitor that came with your board? I use that Biostar app and it works great for me. It could also be something weird with windows 7 that is causing the problem (what is the temp in the BIOS? that can help you get a basic idea of where your temps are).

Good luck

Well check this out guys, It @3.4 with all 4cores, it failed Prime95, no not just failed, it BSODed on me in about 10 min of Priming.

So I thought hey, I rather have the Gigahertz VS the # of Cores.

Keep these things in mind

- With ACC turned on is when my temp sensors are all out of whack.
- I am using the stock cooler from a 6000+ Windsor
- Idle Temps around 41-46*C
- Load temps have gotten as high as 61-63*C

Now I rather get this sucker to 3.8ghz with only 3cores, then to stabilize it at 3.2ghz with 4 cores.

my 12vrails are (there are only 2 on this powersupply) are running 18amps, on each.

I am going to run a few gaming benchmarks and tests to see if my PSU is underpowering my system, because once I put some stress on that 4850, that will become very apparent.

I am not going to add more volts considering, I think I am getting into the the 60*s C when under load.

maybe after I get a better cooler and a better PSU.

Are you sure that your temps are reporting correctly now? If your max load temp is 60c then its a great idea to stop where you are, we just want to make sure those are the real temps that you are getting, thats all.

About the power supply... how many watts are available on the 12v rails combined? The reason that I ask is that the "multiple rails" are usually drawing from the same place... and so most multiple rail PSU's are actually just fancy single rail ones. Mine is the same way, it says I have two 17a rails, but when you do the math, I only actually have 30amps, instead of 34amps like you would think (amps are watts divided by voltage, I have 360w as the total for both of those "rails", so thats how I get 30 amps [360/12=30])

Have you touched the NB yet?

Did the HS seat right? those temps are pretty high, and the stock 6000+ cooler isn't half bad... I'm surprised to see such high temps. With my Xig I never broke 39c, even at 1.55v (i know they're not equal, but still, 41c idle is higher than I think it should be).

Good luck
