thermal tape is sticky? Obviously not on my old MSI board, cause it had two pushpins holding the MOSFET cooler down and (after taking it off) the thermal tape wasn't sticky at all...

edit: i mean on other parts of the board that don't already have heatsinks - how do you secure it then?

That's because that's a thermal pad.
Thermal tape is sticky.

Thermal epoxy is also sometimes used. That stuff makes the heatsink unremovable however.

ahh i see i see. So if i for example, cut a small square of tape from a strip like this, i could then stick it to the bottom of a RAM sink and stick that to a chip or VRM.

Yes.

Don't forget to clean the surface and the bottom of the heatsink with something like rubbing alcohol before doing so though.

If the surfaes aren't clean, sometimes tape doesn't stick well.

By virtue of my CPU HSF, I get some additional mobo cooling I would like to throw a few sinks on there, though. I'll pick some up on my next trip to the Egg :P I'll post a pic when I do. I was looking at a set of these or something similar (based on quantity and free s/h )

@OP: which ramsinks in particular did you buy? I saw a thread once where a guy attached those copper ramsinks to his TRUE and couldn't cut them - they were that hard...
From past experience excess heat really can do a number on stability. I had 2x8800GT in a case not designed for that much heat and I ended up getting an Antec 300. As soon as I had that case set up right, things really settled down.

Sometimes it's just a matter of increasing the ability to transfer heat with better forced convection but of course, ambient temperature will always limit the ability to move that heat.

Is that one large heatsink on a set of four MOSFETs that you are putting? Don't you run the risk of shorting with that if your heatsink touches some MOSFET pins?
