Your heat sink won't be doing too much if its not getting good air flow since its such a large heat sink it'll be blocking off a lot of air flow half the time, have you thought about leaving the side of the case off and having a normal house fan or something pointed towards your case if you can't manage better airflow etc? That might help a lot for you If your case is closed up and has crappy air flow then naturally the ambient in your case is going to be hotter than the ambient in the room, and the case will just get hotter when under stress since the heat will build up in there faster than it can escape! And tmpin1 or whatever in speed fan if i remember correctly is a sensor in the actual socket, so any temp of your processor is going to be hotter than that

so you're saying that i can still have lower temps then?
ehm my airflow in my case aint that bad. the exhausts are just limited. it's just not as good as a gaming case. i'm guessing, if i tried this out of the case, it'll be 35c idle and 40c load at stocks. right now with my oc at 1.41v, my temps are 38c idle and 51c load. if i take it out i'm guessing 35-36c idle 48c load. i'm still using a crappy tim though. you still think i should get better than that when i reseat? and about temp1, it really varies. i think it's just with my cpu and mobo as the temps are messed up. i'm sure with my previous cpu, i was relying on the coretemps are than temp1. it's just different in this setup. it's more like a bug or something.

With my case simply by adding 2 more fans i dropped close to 10c under load when gaming because i wasn't exhausing enough hot air, my graphics card put out got air and it got sucked into my cooler and naturally things stayed hot Having good clear well directed air flow is crucial to maintaining good stable temps especially in hot climates like yours or mine mate

those things are expensive ayt?

right, i'm gonna have my case modded soon. or maybe i'll just use the money to buy a cm storm scout instead, while waiting for the 5k series.but what about nailing the problem? coz i swear i tried it a couple of times in open air and my load core temps were like 55c at stock. i still haven't had the chance to run it again open air as soon as i figured it out. perhaps i'll try it when when i get a better tim.

wow, I never thought of the sensors being messed up but I just did a quick check. I let my system load for a few minutes (temps never go above 55 core, cpu temp reported by teh mobo never hit 50) then shut it off. cpu temp instantly dropped back down like normal. core temp hovered at 54c for MANY seconds before it finally started to go back down.
well then, looks like i have more thermal room than I thought!

well it seems that the old batches of the am2+ phenom 2s have this kind of problem. especially on boards that are pre-phenom 2 launched.

hmm well I don't know if mine could be considered old. it's a 0901 chip but it definitely has got to have some funky sensor issue. I do think I have an alarm for 60c that should go off, and I always was curious as to why it would never work hahaha

phenom 2 am2+ with pre-phenom 2 mobos then? there are about 5 members here already that had the same problems.

It could be just that chipset, I know my temps are being reported just fine (but I have a different chipset). That would be really interesting to find out if all of the 790GX boards are messed up like that... or even if its just certain boards.
EDIT: I guess I am running a AM3 chip though
