Sounds like it is your system...... Hard drive, Ram, Processes. Other things in the system could be causing the bottleneck.

I don't think it would bottleneck horribly.

Granted a phenom II 550 would be a much better chip... But if your 5000+ is anything like mine, it should work just fine. I play cod 4 at 1080p w/ aa, crysis wars at 1680x1050(A little hairy at 1080p) with the best visuals setting and everything works just fine.

Try defrags and terminating any unnecessary processes prior to gaming, etc will help greatly

I wouldn't go above a 9800GT to be honest, My old 3.5Ghz 5600+ X2 held back my old SLI 8800GT rig so I would assume that a 3Ghz 5000+ should just about cope with one 9800GT.

It's even worse due to your resolution placing more importance on CPU speed.

yes, it will

im not reading the other comments cause i saw some of the people that posted and ive argued with them enough on bottle necking >_<

i had a 5000+ oc'd at 3.1ghz that bottle necked my 8800gts sli REALLY bad, so im 100% positive that yours at 3ghz will bottle neck a 4870, although thats not to say the 4870 wont perform beautifully, but you would definately notice the bottle neck if your benching and it would be a pretty substantial number

ENT, your bottleneck was a user issue. If you run clean system, there should be little if no bottleneck. I think you read that dudes post opposite..LOL

BTW, you still need to know what a bottleneck really is. 3.1GHZ dual core should have absolutely no bottleneck with any video card.

lol you know absolutely nothing about bottle necks and have proved it

for the love of god stop posting already

just for you ill post 3dmark proof, clean install for the duel core, same untouched os for the quadcore score, same clocks on my graphics cards

5000+ BE clocked at 3.2ghz
940 BE clocked at 3.33ghz

pretty big difference

entthegod is absolutely right, i got bottlenecks with my AMD 5000+ overclocked to 3.2 with a 4850 i think its going to bottleneck a 4870 much worse. the 5000+ holds it back so much, you get stuttering, random fps drops and and its just not nice :P

Well, now I've speculated about upgrading my platform.

Is it possible that I would be able to replace my CPU and mainboard without having to reformat, as long as I uninstall the appropriate drivers?
