Default Need a Quad under $100. Looking at the Phenom 9600.

Recently, I lost my whole system to a freak voltage spike. I was running an A64 X2 6000+ at the time, and this aging 4200+ is killing me.

I want a Quad but have a super strict budget of $100, and it needs to be AM2+.

I was looking at the Phenom 9600, but I've heard about the erratum bug.

What should I do?

you're much better off getting any xx50 Phenom at least.

Even a triple-core variant off that would be better than a 9600.

Would you be willing to look at triple cores?

This: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103648
For $99 would spank that 9600. (If you don't know, AM3 cpus can run in AM2/AM2+ socket motherboards)

Yeah, I'll start looking at the X3's.

Thank you.

My bet would be an X3 710 with the possibility of getting a quad if your motherboard supports AM3, the 9600 is a letdown and the TLB bug is in it and the only fix cripples its performance even more

No problem, and they can easily reach 3.8GHz on air if the motherboard can do it

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103680
and unlock the other two cores
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu..._15.html#sect0

edit: the black edition will give you mad overclocking

How easy is the 550 to unlock? I've heard it's possible on some boards.
