You can see how a beginner (like me) might get confused seeing the following settings in BIOS:

NB frequency
NB voltage

....which actually refer to two *different* items.

Actually, if you read throught the above properly, HT link speed has nothing to do with memory/cache access. It is NB frequency which controls this, which refers to the frequency of the Integrated Memory Controller on the CPU, not the actually northbridge on the mobo, which runs at the HT link frequency.

you should be able to get Northbridge Freq up to 2400(12x) easily by bumping the CPU-NB VID up a bit to like 1.35-1.4V, it adds a bit of stabiltiy also. and yea, HT CLocks, just manually leave it at 2.0GHZ or it will try to oc itself to 2.4

Just to make sure i'm 100% clear, this will increase the voltage going to the Integrated Memory Controller on the CPU (otherwise known as CPU-NB)?

So any voltage increase on the CPU-NB will be taken up by the cooler on your CPU die?

yep just about, but since i just saw your rig, you could sit off of it until you upgrade the cpu cooling. but yea, 2400 at 1.35V is do-able but not sure on your current temps.

2.4ghz NB shouldnt even need a 1.35 NB volts.. probably .75 to 1volt. i hit 2394 with none added to cpu-nb.

My CPU-NB volt tweaking gives me minus figures for volts. -0.05, -0.1, -0.15v etc. Is this right?

ps you're right, my CPU isn't going much higher than 3.4GHz due to temps. I just wanna see if i can do 3.6-3.7 with higher NB, won't be running for any length of time.

that is incorrect thinking, a higher NB would only cause instability and not stability. remember, nb and ht are at 2ghz by default. so keep those 2 values as close to 2k as possible, whereas on the other hand, increasing/oc'ing the NB will yield you higher number scores, but may also cause instability depending on board limits and cpu chip limits. so if you want to hit higher clocks..~2k NB is where you should be looking..and ofcourse..+volts to the cpu.
