Yeah Buddy...It didn't actually fail on it's own...I hit the escape key @61c...It hovered around 58-60c for 34 minutes of the test, and i got tired of being nervous...I could feel the heat on my legs...I'll have another HS in about a week or so and I'll start again, normally I would say screw it and go for it, but i'm the idiot who let the 3year kid old trash a 955 BE and it was beyond repair, only reason I bought the 965 was to replace that chip

stop complaing about a chip i dont have? no need for stabs like that. (and if im gonna be complaining, its gonna be about not having i7...)

just thought would be easier without multiple threads, fair enough though youve mentioned valid differences.

I'm glad there's a seperate thread. I was scouring the original looking for results for this particular chip but it was already over 200 pages long before this chip was even released. That thread is still heavily tilted towards the 955.

I'm debating on selling my 955 and going for this. The higher clocks on less volts is what interests me the most. Also I heard the IMC is a lot more stable on this so I can't wait to see some more results from users here. Keep em coming!

Yeah a little lapping and a new HS and I will re-commence to pushing the threshold. I know Slappa gets his chips for free so he'll either clock one off the charts are fry one trying, I'm sure he'll make a Sticky so we can post our info there once he gets his chips. I can say it's alot easier to get to 4.0GHz with this chip, and IMO the NB clocks like a dream, but I don't have the best HS and I'm having heat problem @ load over 4 GHz. Hopefully some more guys will post

Ok I got to play with the chip a little last night and so far I am impressed. My goal was to get 4.0GHz CPU easily and 3.0GHz NB. I made the 4.0GHz but I need to work a little more to get the 3.0GHz NB when I have some more time. Then later down the road I will run some stability test like Linx, OCCT or some Prime.

Anyway here are some pics of my endeavor so far:

Of course I have to start with everything stock for reference.

Now how far stock volts would take me with just simple multiplier bumps

The next multi required some more voltage.

Again, another multi bump required a little more voltage.

Now lets throw in some 2800 NB.

Now just a couple of benches, first PIFast:

Finally some wPrime

Overall I like what I am seeing and once I get some more time I hope to have at least 4.1GHz stable on 32 bit with 3.0GHz NB and then 4.0GHz stable on 64 bit with 3.0GHz NB. We shall see.

^^ Hey Ben, did you have to drop the HT to get it stable or was that a preference/heat issue?

I'm hoping to get this chip soon cause it seems like it can hit 4.0Ghz pretty easy. I want to get there for gaming and bragging rights Getting to 3.7 stable was a chore on my 955 and it took me almost two weeks. This thing looks like it will hit 4.0 in one night.

I know this is really not relative to this thread, but i have been looking into the 955 and 965, and in the screenies posted at the top, it has become one of several i have seen with the RAM unganged. I am new to overclocking, and I have mine set to ganged, being it says in bios to use it with dual channel setups. Is there an advantage to having it unganged? Maybe less of a hangup due to RAM clocks or something? Just a question to which the answer has been hiding from me :/

No that was a total accident and did not even notice that. It must have changed when I was trying different NB speeds.

EDIT: Just did another run to show it with the correct HT

Unganged is faster and more stable than ganged.
