Your 955 is fine
As far as overclocking goes, both top out around 3.8ghz on air

At stock, the difference is negligible. Only a serious benchmarker would care.

Is this worth doing or shall i just stick with the 955?
You say your not an over clocker ? Then this is easy. Go into Bios, set cpu multiplier to 17 and BAM, instant 965 for the price of a 955 (I'm assuming its a black edition. I've never heard of a 955 non-black edition) . Should be no reason to mess with voltages or other settings. If your 955 won't do 3.4 on stock voltage then you have a bunk chip.
Thats how I started overclocking, buy the cheaper chip and clock it to match the top of the line. But be careful, once you start its like crack - it's always " just 50 more Mhz". You will never be satisfied for long.

hmm, this is actually a tough question, because if you DO overclock the 955 and decide that overclocking IS for you, the 965 will hit 4.0 easier (and we all want 4.0...)

however saying that, i am having GREAT fun clocking my 955. up to 3915 now, and a few weeks ago i swore i could not get it above 3700. so many factors affecting an OC like bios, ram etc etc, so yeah its kinda fun :S

I think i am set to keep the 955. I have been telling myself they is no point going up 200mhz or it will never stop!!! I will be forever chasing cpu's around every 3 months when a new one comes out! I think this 955 will last me maybe 2 years now. I am sure by then computer hardware would of moved on plenty for a upgrade

I have done the multiplier thing and i tell you what i am now on 3.4ghz same as 965 its not different not in games or nothing :s even the fps clock is no different, It was so easy to jut do that multiplier thing i am unsure if i have done it right lol! But right now my temps are not so good because i am on stock cooler they was not great before but now its closer to exceeding the 60oc mark... So i will wait till i get a good cpu cooler then try to run it on 3.4ghz with good temps....

With just doing that multiplier thing without touching volts or whatever what is the most i will get out of the cpu?

hmmm this is weird i got the 955 to 3.4 ran the windows 7 performance chart and it went from 7.3 to 7.4... i needed to change it back to stock as my temps was getting close to the 60oc mark... So i ran the windows 7 performance chart again and it has not taken it back down to 7.3? Its kept it at 7.4! Is it stuck now or something on that multiplier lol ops
